Helpful Advice: Fulfilling Your General Education Core
Making the Right Choices = Working with Your Academic Advisor
You are not alone. Academic advisors are available to help you make the right decisions. They can help clarify your options and answer questions about course selection, transfer credits, AP course, and summer classes. (Note! Many of our UC majors prescribe their own “flavor” of General Education courses so please meet with your advisor.)

Develop a Course Strategy
You can easily complete the requirements of the General Education Core. Develop a carefully designed course strategy to ensure on-time graduation. Many courses can fulfill a General Education Core requirement as well as a college or major requirement. Brief course descriptions, organized by college, include their Breadth of Knowledge (BoK) classification, providing help in planning your course strategy.

Track Your Progress
Closely monitor your progress in your General Education Core courses. Print out the courses that you have completed, called a degree audit to keep a personal record of your progress and assist you when you meet with your advisor.

Check the General Education Core Web Site
Please visit this site periodically for additional information/news on the General Education Core.

Changing Majors
Many UC undergraduates change majors. Your General Education Core can readily transfer from one UC college to another. (Note! Please meet with your advisor for course selection.) Are you undecided about which major to pursue? UC’s Center for Exploratory Studies can help you decide.
