New Online Network Does 'Six Degrees,' Alumni-Style
A powerful new online tool enables alumni to network easily and effectively with their UC friends — and friends-of-friends, and so on. The groundbreaking inCircle, free to all UC alums, is revolutionizing the art of staying in touch.
Actor Kevin Bacon is probably less famous for his acting than for embodying the Hollywood version of the “six degrees of separation” phenomenon … His many movie roles have networked him to within six “steps” — usually fewer — of just about any other actor. But the “six degrees” concept is not just an entertaining diversion for movie buffs. Everyone’s network is larger and more powerful than they might expect, and that’s important … Effective networking yields significant professional and personal benefits. With that in mind, the UC Alumni Association has introduced inCircle, an online networking tool that will revolutionize the art of staying in touch. Better yet, the service is free to all alumni. Professional, career and relocation connections are inCircle’s most common uses, but it’s also popular for personal and social communication, linking alumni who have common interests or are geographically close to each other. All UC alumni are in the inCircle database (listings show name, college and graduation year only — no contact information). It’s up to the individual to complete a profile (as much or as little as desired). Then, an account can be activated via your primary e-mail address, which also serves as your system log-in name. With inCircle, you can easily: Grassroots efforts to spark inCircle have begun, as hundreds of UC alumni have already joined the network. Learn more about inCircle and get registered.
