High school students, even high school freshmen, can get an early jump on earning college credit by enrolling in the Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program at the University of Cincinnati. UC program director Trevia Ogburn says the deadline to enroll is fast approaching. Interested students must notify their school by March 31 and have their application packet sent to UC by April 15. The applications are underway for fall quarter 2003.
The state-funded UC Post Secondary Enrollment Options Program (PSEOP) is open to all Ohio schools within a 50 mile radius of UC. Students who qualify must carry a B grade average and can decide between two options. They can enroll for college credit only, which would require the student to pay for tuition, fees and books, or, students can enroll for both high school and college credit, in which expenses for tuition, fees and books are picked up by the state. Students can carry up to 15 UC credit hours.
The University of Cincinnati presently has 39 high school students enrolled in the program, including one freshman, three sophomores, 13 juniors and 22 seniors.
