The Cincinnati Herald and other media featured news of the victory by recent UC graduate Whitney Gaskins in the Miss Black Ohio USA 2009 competition. Gaskins, who earned her degree in biomedical engineering, plans to return to UC to pursue a master's in quantitative analysis in the College of Business.

She placed first in the competition in the talent and fitness portions of the event.
