UC's President Ono Joins Brother in Musical Performance at XU
Pianist Momoro Ono, with a guest appearance by his brother and cellist, University of Cincinnati President Santa J. Ono, will perform at the Xavier Classical Piano Series at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 in XUs Gallagher Theater.
Featured works will include the Kol Nidrei, Op. 47 (Max Bruch), Stravinskys Trois Mouvements de Petrouchka, and Schuberts Sontata in B-flat major, D. 960.
Momoro Ono studied piano in the United States-initially with Kathryna Barone at the Bryn Mawr Conservatory near Philadelphia. His family later moved to Baltimore where Momoro worked with Barbara English Maris and Julian Martin. At the Juilliard School, he studied with Adele Marcus as a recipient of the William Petschek Piano Scholarship, receiving his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. At the Peabody Conservatory, he studied with Leon Fleisher under full scholarship and received his Artist Diploma and Doctorate. Mr. Ono's orchestral appearances include those with the Baltimore Symphony and the Pittsburgh Symphony-which was broadcast live on NPR. He has given numerous recitals in the United States, including one at the Kennedy Center concert hall.
President Ono studied cello for eight years as a child at Peabody with Carolyn Hopkins and Carter Brey. He then stopped playing during college and for 30 years following graduate school. Inspired by MYCincinnati Ambassador Ensemble, he has been trying to play again for the past few months with the help of Christoph Sassmannshaus, Luke Dumm, Jonathan Lee, Ilya Finkelshteyn and especially Alan Rafferty.

UC engineering co-op medalist excels through 6 co-op experiences

Ever since she garnered an appreciation for chemistry in high school, fifth-year University of Cincinnati student Jaclyn Bashore has not looked back. When she graduates with a chemical engineering degree and a minor in chemistry this spring, Bashore will have had six co-op experiences — along with a new full-time job at AbbVie, a biopharmaceutical research company with whom she did two co-op rotations. To commemorate her exceptional co-op work, the UC College of Engineering and Applied Science awarded Bashore the 2024 Herman Schneider Medal, an annual award given to a graduating senior who demonstrates outstanding success as a co-op student.
