Software Installation

Installation Directions

The R25 account requires the installation of both the R25 client and the WebEx training software on the user’s workstation. The R25 client can only be installed on Windows workstations. Administrative permissions to the workstation are required to install the software.

If a college or department has local computer support personnel, they can perform the client installation themselves. However, support may be requested from UCit Desktop Services by contacting the UCit Help Desk by phone, 556-3785, or email, helpdesk@ucmail.uc.edu.

Installation Directions (Does not include instructions for Med Center)

East Campus personnel have separate installation instructions. If you are an East Campus user, please call Rick Vogelsang at 558-0994 or Birsen Kaya at 558-0345.

Client Executables

When installing the R25 client, please copy the correct version of the installation executable to a temporary directory on the user's hard drive. Also please copy the Crystal Reports installation file into the SAME directory on the user's hard drive as the R25 installation file. Otherwise, the R25 installation file will NOT be able to find the Crystal Reports installation file, and Crystal Reports will NOT be installed.

McAfee VirusScan 8.0

McAfee VirusScan 8.0 has a new feature which blocks port 25 in order to prevent mass mailing worms from sending email. This will cause an error when an event scheduler attempts to email an R25 confirmation report to a customer. You can fix this problem by adding the R25 executable filename to the list of processes allowed to use port 25.

  1. Open the McAfee VirusScan Console.
  2. Double click the Access Protection task.
  3. Select the Port Blocking tab.
  4. Double click the rule named "Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail"
  5. Add r25.exe to the end of the list of Excluded Processes. Separate it from the rest of the list by a comma.
  6. Click OK twice.

Patches

There are two patch files. The general patch is optional, but recommended. The general patch is cumulative; the latest general patch includes all earlier patches. The Windows XP patch is required for users running Windows XP.

You will have to apply the patches to each R25 client installed on the user's desktop (production, test, and/or training).

General patch for R25 v3.2 (10/22/2004)
Windows XP patch for R25 v3.2 (10/31/2003)

Installation instructions for both patches:

  1. Download patch file to temporary directory on user's hard drive.
  2. Run WinZip on the zipped file.
  3. Click the Extract button.
  4. Set the "Extract to" field to the R25 installation directory. If you have followed the naming conventions given in the Installation Directions, the R25 installation directories will be R25v32Prod, R25v32Test, and R25v32Train.
  5. Check the "Overwrite existing files" checkbox.
  6. Check the "Use folder names" checkbox.
  7. Click the Extract button to extract the files.
  8. Run "Configure" from the R25 program manager group.
  9. On the Enter Reporting ODBC Datasource form, check "Configure reports for this datasource."
  10. If you do not have an active drive mapping to the shared text directory, the configuration process will fail. Please refer to the Installation Directions for instructions on how to create the drive mapping to the shared text directory.
  11. Complete the configuration wizard, and wait for the reports configuration to finish.

If you are still receiving the error "UAICtl Cannot instantiate OCX UAICtl.HTMLViewer" after installing the general patch, then follow these steps:

  1. Logon to PC as each user that has attempted to run R25 v3.2 and received the OCX error.
  2. Open a command windows by going to Start - Run and typing "cmd".
  3. Navigate to the \bin directory in one of the R25 installation directories. If you have followed the naming conventions given in the Installation Directions, the R25 installation directories will be R25v32Prod, R25v32Test, and R25v32Train.
  4. Run this command from the command line: regsvr32.exe /u uaictl.ocx
  5. Run r25start.exe from the R25 installation directory to verify it works.
