Software Services

Software is a major asset of the University of Cincinnati. Like most peer institutions in the country and around the world, UC spends millions of dollars annually on software licensing purchases. We continually make additions to the university’s software resources. Whereas academic and administrative departments at the university may add to the software library with specific purchases to meet their own unique requirements, many of the software licensing agreements into which UCit enters are intended to benefit every registered student and every staff and faculty member employee. Three obvious examples are our learning management system (Blackboard), the UConnect (and former Bearcat Online) and Exchange e-mail systems, and our network system software.

Below are some of the other software offerings that are currently available. If you are a faculty or staff member, and you don’t see some software you want UCit to consider licensing, please contact the UCit Help Desk or send e-mail to Amin Shafie at amin.shafie@uc.edu.

  • Adobe software
Covering most Adobe products, our flexible CLP contract reduces software costs for deploying the most current versions of Adobe software across campus. Departments, students, and employees may purchase software through the CLP at the UC Bookstores, our designated reseller for this contract.
  • Autodesk software
UCit distributes licenses and media for AutoCAD and twenty-six (26) other products.
  • Data Analysis and Data Management software
The university has a rich library of the most current versions of statistical software - JMP, SAS, SigmaPlot, SigmaStat, SPSS, and STATA  - to perform data analysis and data management functions. JMP, SPSS, and STATA are available for the Macintosh platform as well as Windows. UCit distributes the licenses and media for these products.

For the Windows platform, the current version is the Office 2007 Enterprise edition. For the Apple platform, it is Office 2008 for the Mac. The entire community is also pre-licensed for upgrades to the Windows Operating System. Current offerings include the Vista Enterprise and Vista Ultimate editions.
  • Microsoft Office Applications software
includes products such as Project 2007 and Visio 2007. Students may purchase these products from the UC Bookstores at discounted prices under our Student Select contract. Departments may purchase the licenses and media for these products and all other Microsoft software, including the entire Server portfolio, from SHI (our Microsoft contract reseller), also at discounted prices under our Academic Select contract.
  • Security software
Anti-virus and anti-spyware software is available to the entire UC community at no charge. This includes home systems for faculty and staff. Departments may also purchase SSL certificates from UCit at excellent discounts.
  • Statistical software
Please see the Data Analysis item above for a list of available statistical software systems at the university.
  • Survey Software
SurveyMonkey (http://www.surveymonkey.com)  is an online survey tool. Users can create accounts, design surveys, distribute them to audiences, and collect and analyze the responses within their respective accounts and all surveys and data are hosted on this company’s site and servers. Faculty, staff, or students interested in buying Professional  annual accounts at the UC discounted price of $100 each (plus $50 if SSL encryption is needed) must sign up using an e-mail address ending in @ucmail.uc.edu or @uc.edu. The UC discount will be automatically applied to all new accounts and to current annual accounts upon renewal. To activate your new account, first register for a free Basic account and then upgrade to the Professional account. A Basic account is very limited, but a Professional account, according to the information on the company’s web site, has unlimited access to many attractive features.

Before purchasing any software commercially, please check our listings via the following links. Further, you may find the software you need available for your use in UCit's - or other UC - computer labs.
