The African American Cultural & Resource Center (AACRC) supports the mission of the university by recruiting, retaining, encouraging the successful matriculation and enhancing the growth and development of students at the University of Cincinnati. However, the center’s major focus is to address the academic, social, spiritual and cultural needs of the African American student population.
A fundamental element of the university community is a pledge to civility. Thus, the center strives to create a learning and working environment which promotes justice and fairness. The center challenges systematic forms of oppression, which historically have inhibited the personal development of individuals who have attended predominately white colleges and universities.
The center encourages the ever-increasing diversity of the student body and also encourages the university community to become more enlightened about the African American experience.
The center aspires for quality in all programs and services and is committed to meeting the educational and service needs of students and other members of the university community. The center values each contact and interaction with members of the university community and visitors as an opportunity to encourage positive relationships, growth and development.
The AACRC is committed to placing students at the core of our service through empowerment and opportunity, as well as access to superior levels of resources. While we foster students' growth and development, our major focus is to address the academic, social, spiritual and cultural needs of the black student population. However, as an urban educational institution, the center acknowledges the increasing diversity of our student body and pledges to reach out and connect beyond our primary constituencies while also cultivating a relationship with our prestigious faculty, staff and administration. The center values robust collaboration within the division, in addition to potential bonds within academic affairs. The influence of the AACRC does not stop at the perimeter of the campus, but touches the Greater Cincinnati community as well as many communities across the United States.
