Meet the Academic Coaches

Janae’ Collier-Stone

Major: Communication
Year: Fourth Year

Janae’ is a third year Communication student. She has worked as an Academic Coach for three years and is a Darwin T. Turner Scholar. She is a Resident Advisor in the Campus Recreation Center, and she enjoys helping students find great ways to become active on campus. She also enjoys working out and watching all types of sports.

Coaching specialties:
Goal setting, campus involvement, stress management, time management and organizational skills.

Hannah Cravens

Major: Social Work
Year: Fourth Year

Hannah is a fourth-year in the social work program, and she is also receiving certificates in both Deaf Studies and International Human Rights. In addition to coaching, she is a Resident Advisor in Dabney Hall and a nanny for a child with autism. In her free time, she enjoys reading, going to the free classes at the rec, and finding cool new shows on Netflix!

Coaching Specialties:
Hannah's areas of coaching interest are time management, test preparation, and connecting students with campus resources.

Stephanie Dickerson

Major: Secondary Education- Chemistry
Year: Second Year

Stephanie is a second year Secondary Education major with a focus in Chemistry. As an education major, Stephanie has a passion for student success. She believes that every student can be successful with the right motivation an inner determination. Stephanie is also a recipient of the prestigious Darwin T. Turner Scholarship Plus Award and serves as an Ambassador for this program. During her spare time, Stephanie volunteers with the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio as a troop leader and reads for leisure.

Organizational skills, time management, goal setting, note-taking skills and motivation.

Hilary Denune

Major: PhD in School Psychology
Year: Third Year

Hilary is a 3rd year graduate student in school psychology, and this is her first year working as an academic coach. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology, with a minor in Spanish, from Miami University. When she is not coaching academically or engaging in school related tasks, Hilary enjoys shopping, making lists, visiting family, watching Grey's Anatomy, and spending time with friends.

Coaching Specialties:
Organization, time management, test preparation, test anxiety, and note-taking

Nicole Ferry

Major: Early Childhood Education (ECE)
Year: Third Year

Nicole is a third year ECE student. She is now student teaching kindergarten and is excited for the second half of this year. Aside from coaching, Nicole is a student worker in the CECH Dean's Office, which gives her access to great resources around the campus. Finding a balance between school, work, and fun can be difficult, but she's learned some important strategies, and she hopes to share them with her students. To have fun after a long week, Nicole loves going to the all of the UC football and basketball games.

Work/Life balance, goal setting, time management and organizational skills.

Marcus Germany

Major: Biomedical Studies
Year: Senior

Marcus is in his fourth year at UC. He is currently a Resident Advisor (RA) in Schneider Hall. Having been a coach last year and a Learning Community Peer Leader the year before, he enjoys seeing his peers and colleagues succeed in and out of the classroom. He tries to carry himself as a role model for others to look up to and come to in times of need. About his work as a coach, he says, "It is my sincere desire, by the time I graduate, that I have made a difference in at least one UC student’s life." When he is not Coaching, Marcus is probably sleeping, catching up on the day's sports news, or planning a practical joke to play on you!

Nick Herrmann

Major: Biology, Spanish
Year: Junior

Nick is a third year student double-majoring in Spanish and Biology. He is pursuing a career in medicine. He is also a second year Resident Adviser in Turner Hall and volunteers at Children's Hospital with Spanish-speaking children. On campus, Nick is a member of the University Honors Association and a participant in the Racial Awareness Program (RAPP).  Nick enjoys reading, running, and sports.

Major: Psychology
Year:
Second Year

Cami is a second year Psychology student in the University Honors Program. This is her second year working at the LAC, where she also works at the front desk.  When she’s not in the office, she works as a server at Outback. She has learned how to balance school, working two jobs, and a social life through her experience in her first year at UC, and she is committed to helping other students succeed. In her free time, she loves working out, watching The Big Bang Theory, and playing with her puppy.

Lauren Rockwell

Major: Master of Education, School Counseling
Year: Second Year


Lauren joined the LAC as a Graduate Assistant in September of 2011. After graduating from Miami University of Ohio in 2009 with a degree in Psychology and Family Studies, Lauren worked for Cincinnati Children’s Hospital designing and implementing behavioral interventions for children with a wide variety of psychological disorders. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in School Counseling at UC and hopes to work as an elementary school counselor upon graduation.

Coaching Specialties:
Goal setting, ADHD, working through anxiety, and cultivating a healthy work-life balance.

Zack Stump

Major: Clarinet Performance
Year: Second Year

Zack is a second year clarinet performance major at the UC College Conservatory of Music (CCM). He has spent time during the past three summers in Nicaragua doing mission work and is also a tutor for the City Gospel Whiz Kids tutoring program. Outside of his studies, he is an avid sports fan and enjoys reading, video games, and spending time with friends and family.

Coaching Specialties: Professionalism and preparation, organizational skills, time management, and self-motivation.

Rachel Wasson

Major: Psychology
Year: Third Year

Rachel is a third year student majoring in psychology and minoring in marketing. She will continue her education to obtain a PhD in health psychology. Rachel is actively involved in the McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program. She volunteers in Dr. Sian Cotton's lab working on program production for the Integrative Medicine Center at the University Hospital. Also, she will be conducting research with Dr. Cotton throughout the summer to meet requirements for the McNair Program. While Rachel is not hard at work with school activities, she is practicing yoga, running, youtubing, pinteresting, or spending time with her friends and family. Sometimes you can even catch her hanging out with her roommate's kitty cat!

Organizational skills, daily scheduling, test-anxiety, stress management, test preparation, and balancing life effectively.
