Direct Deposit Information
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs now offers direct deposit to students receiving benefits under the following chapters:
- Chapter #30
- Chapter #31
- Chapter #33
- Chapter #1606
- Chapter #1607
To take advantage of this option, call the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs at 1-877-838-2778. You will need to provide the following information:
- Your financial institution's name, address, and phone number
- Your financial institution's routing number
- Your account number and type (checking or savings)
- Your VA Claim Number.
Participating in direct deposit will eliminate mailing time and lost checks. As with any direct deposit, be sure to monitor your bank statements carefully to ensure you are being paid correctly.
If for some reason the electronic deposit is not accepted (such as change in account number, closed account, etc.), VA automatically will mail a check to you. This will take ten to fourteen (10-14) days from the time that VA realizes the problem. The U.S. Department of the Treasury will be notified that a paper check is necessary and must be mailed to you.
It's best to keep the VA informed of any changes in your account well before it's time for the funds to be transmitted.
Remember to inform the Registrar's Office veterans educational benefits area promptly of any changes to your mailing address.
