1953 bench

Planning + Design + Construction works with the clients to design and facilitate the
graphic and visual interpretation of the honor bestowed. Materials such as granite,
bronze, stainless steel, aluminum and zinc have been used. In this example,
the Class of 1953 requested a replacement of their original bench near
Tangeman University Center. In conjunction with the Van Wormer Hall renovation the
surrounding landscape was redesigned providing good location for the bench.
Using materials from Van Wormer Hall, PDC designed a cantilever granite bench with a
limestone back. The limestone back displays the original plaque on one side and a second
plaque commemorating the redesign and rededication of the 1953 bench in 2004.

Standards and guidelines for named buildings and spaces are based on the type
of building and its location.  A variety of designs and materials may be employed.
