BUILDING (CUSTODIAL) SERVICES


The staff of Building Services provides routine housekeeping and custodial care to more than 97 UC buildings totaling over nine million square feet of space.  Each building has staff assigned to perform specific cleaning routines on a scheduled basis including, but not limited to, the following baseline services:

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies
  • Clean classrooms, auditoriums and labs
  • Clean entrance ways
  • Clean main stairways
  • Spot/damp mop designated office areas

Three Times a Week 

Corbett Auditorium in the Corbett Center for the Performing Arts on the Uptown West Campus

  • Empty trash in designated office areas    

Weekly

  • Damp mop floors
  • Vacuum floors

Monthly

  • Dust specific areas as needed without disturbing any items

Other

  • Scrub, wax, burnish and refinish floors to occur during academic term breaks  
  • Shampoo carpets/carpet cleaning to occur during academic term breaks  
  • Window cleaning is contracted out, as funding permits, and costs are shared with requesting department.
  • Expenses related to schedule variations (i.e., lock outs) are passed on to the department.

All custodial staffing is based on availability. When a shortage of staff exists, areas will be policed. The priority standard for cleaning is as follows: restrooms; classrooms; public spaces; and labs.  In areas designated as office space, trash will be emptied three (3) times a week, provided staffing is available.

  1. Custodial workers may only perform duties that are specifically listed in their job classification. 
  2. Due to the sensitivity of equipment, at no time will custodial staff clean computers, monitors, and their related work station equipment, tables and desks.
  3. Recycling programs at UC are established on a voluntary basis with university departments.  Collection and proper disposal of all recycling materials is the responsibility of participating university departments. Facilities Management supports departmental efforts to recycle by locating convenient containers/dumpsters for collection purposes.  Refer to Recycling Information. 

      For special requests...please contact the appropriate Work Control Center or the Administrator for your area listed below.  Be aware that custodian support for additional services above our baseline services or for special events will incur a charge.
