Interiors and Finishes Answers

1. May I paint my office?

Please contact PDC, and we will be happy to assist you.  There are many University-wide paint colors to choose from that have been especially selected for each campus building.

PDC will also assist you with the process of getting your project done.  The University contracts painting work through licensed reputable contractors who produce quality work in a timely manner, in order to cause the least amount of disruption to University business.  These approved contractors have the required insurance to work on campus, and comply with OSHA regulations.

2. May I carpet my own office?

Please contact PDC, and we will be happy to assist you.  PDC is responsible for making sure that all interior finishes including carpet comply with flammability requirements, as well as ensuring that the carpet meets other appropriate specifications.

PDC is presently in the process of adding an area to our website that will address interior material finish guidelines on a building by building basis.  It is important to the overall appearance of our campus that the University is able to achieve a consistency of products within each building, and a consistent level of finish quality across campus.

Please submit a Project Request Form, available on the PDC website, and submit to Craig Veile at craig.veile@uc.edu.

3. Why can't I buy my own furniture?

Please contact PDC, and we will be happy to assist you.

Through various price agreements, the University obtains exceptional discounts on quality office furnishings, and PDC attempts to select furniture available through these agreements.  If a particular item is not available through one of these agreements, then other options are researched.

PDC evaluates furniture based on many factors including durability, the depth of product lines, interchangeability of parts, and product design.  We also take into account past experience with various furniture manufacturers, including the actual product, warranty issues, and the service available from local vendors.

5. Are there separate furnishings and finishes standards for West Campus and East/Medical Campus?

Yes. Due to the difference in the nature of how buildings on the two campuses are largely used, the interior furnishing standards have to comply with additional or different standards. Please refer to the following link for Medical Campus Furnishing Standards http://www.uc.edu/af/pdc/standards_forms/design_guidance.html

6. How to fix broken furniture in a Signature building?

Please check the furniture for any identifying information. If you can determine the manufacturer, please contact the local vendor for assistance and to find out if the warranty is still in effect. If you are unsure of whom the local vendor is, please contact the UC Purchasing Department.
