The UC Housing Conservation Challenge is an energy & water savings and recycling
competition between all of the resident halls on campus.  The Conservation Challenge
will begin Nov 1st and last until Nov 26th.  At the end of the competition, prizes will be
given to the resident halls, which managed to conserve the most energy and recycling.
Each resident hall on campus is equipped with a real-time power meter.  These power
meters send data to this website and allow competing resident hall dwellers to check their
placement in the competition.  Recycling data will be updated weekly.  This website also
contains tips for reducing energy and water usage, a resource calculator to gauge
significance of power, water, and recycling, and links to UC's Sustainability website,
student groups and organizations that support conservation.

Good Luck!

The University of Cincinnati will expand upon its current recycling program with a grant awarded from the Hamilton County Solid Waste Management Division.

Shaun Finley, a student worker in the Utilities Department and Marie Sutthoff from Facilities Management, worked with others to receive a grant of $15,178.00 from the Hamilton County Solid Waste Management Division, allowing the university to move forward with its sustainability efforts. Beginning April 2008, a campus wide recycling program and challenge called, “Pitch In”, in cooperation with all colleges and departments on U.C.’s Uptown West Campus, shall be initiated with this awarded grant.

The “Pitch In” program will expand the existing recycling program to all West Campus buildings by adding 100 additional recycling bins with-in the Uptown Campus facilities, employ two U.C. students, as well as provide financial support for a vigorous advertising campaign to promote recycling awareness.

The second “Pitch In” challenge will be conducted in October 2008.
