Housing Conservation Challenge –  http://afweb1.af.uc.edu/EnergyChallenge/default.aspx

Twice per year, lasting one month, the residence halls duel it out by competing against each other in 3 categories: energy reduction, water conservation, and recycling. During the month-long competition, we noticed a significant drop in the residents' utility usage. We generate approx. 23,000 lbs of recycling material for the bi- annual competitions.

Tailgate Recycling

Tailgating: beer, barbecue and… recycling?
But it’s true. For the second year in a row, a group of volunteers, mostly students, will be teaching tailgaters how to recycle and having some fun while they’re at it.
The program works like this: volunteers go to large groups and hand out recycling containers. Also, they place more containers in the congested areas to capture the most recyclable waste. Before the game starts, most fans clean-up. Volunteers at that time will collect the containers and dispose of the recycling to the nearest recycling dumpster.
Last year, the volunteers recycled more than 2 tons of glass, aluminum and plastic over the course of the season.

Tailgate volunteers are working at all UC home football games, scheduled for Sept. 12, Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 07, Nov. 13, and Nov. 27 for the 2009-10 season.

Trees for Tomorrow –

Now in our 2nd year planting trees, student volunteers last year planted 1400 tress in 3 hours.
STUDENTS, FACULTY, & STAFF, you can reduce your carbon footprint by helping to plant 2000 indigenous trees at Glenwood Garden located in Sharonville on Saturday May 9th, 2009. Free transportation will be provided to and from University Ave. located at the new UC shuttle bus stop located in-between Turner Residence Hall and University Avenue Garage by the loop.
Pick-up times begin at 10am and return at 2 pm. Free lunch will be provided. Winton Woods will have already dug the holes; we just need to plant the trees.
Cincinnatus & Turner hours will be offered to those students who need them. Hike the trails and plant a few trees. To volunteer, contact us.  green@uc.edu

Student volunteers come together with 3, 30 yd roll-off dumpsters to capture plastic and cardboard material that the new resident's brings in each competition, we have reduced our move-in waste stream by 93%.
