"I saw how well off my family was after graduating from UC, because my mother, father, sister, and brother are all really successful right now, and I think University of Cincinnati played a large role in that.  After I realized that I received this scholarship, I couldn’t wait to tell my family.  They were so proud of me and, since I’m the youngest in the family, they were so excited that I could be part of the same legacy as them.

I think this scholarship is a wonderful opportunity to allow students to see how important it is to be proud of the school you attend.  At UC, I hope to develop more as a leader, and receive a great co-op opportunity next year as a sophomore, and eventually leave with a job opportunity after graduating.  I would like to thank them for this opportunity with this wonderful scholarship."

"Growing up, I always loved UC and was a big Bearcats fan…so I’m very grateful to the alumni who gave me an opportunity to come here through this scholarship.  I hope to get good grades and graduate and just overall make my father proud, because he went here and I’m the second generation here, so it’s good to be able to build that legacy at the University of Cincinnati.  …It’s great to finally be a part of the community here and finally be a Bearcat.

Any scholarship is good, but especially this one because I like how it’s with the Alumni Association, so I’m glad that it’s like the history of the school giving you money because all the money I can get for school helps.  I would like to thank them so much for the money here because it’s allowing me to be able to come to this university and graduate."

"In my first college visit here, I got on campus and it was just ‘home.’  That’s what makes UC so great.  Everyone is just so accepting of others and we’re so culturally aware and diverse and I just love being here.  If I met my donor, I would first of all thank them very much for giving me the scholarship and I would also thank them for giving me the opportunity to be a successful student at the University of Cincinnati.

I’m also a Darwin T. Turner Scholar, and that’s a diversity scholarship so it allows me to interact with other people of different cultures and diversities.  I also do community service, such as painting walls and houses for underprivileged women at the Women’s Center.  It was a part of the Into the Streets program here at UC."

"At first, I didn’t consider Cincinnati at all in my college-searching process, because both my parents went here and my interests were very different from theirs.  My mom is a nurse practitioner and my dad’s an engineer, and I was looking to go into the more creative side of things.  At the very tail end of my college searching experience, I actually did check out Cincinnati, and I found out that they had a more diverse range of programs than I thought and that the school of DAAP was actually almost exactly what I was looking for.

As of right now, thanks to the financial aid I’ve received, especially from this scholarship as well as my family’s own work, I get to go through college without ever having to take out a student loan, so I’m incredibly excited about that and what that means for my future.  I would like to show my immense gratitude for helping me go through college without having to take out any student loans and I would thank them for their donations and what they’ve made possible for me."

"Since a lot of people in my family have come here, I didn’t necessarily feel like I had to come here or that I didn’t want to come here…when I came and visited I really liked the campus and I liked the soccer aspect of it and the school aspect – which are both the two big things for me.  It’s nice because it’s about a half-hour away from home so I can visit and my parents are thrilled that they can come up to all of my games.

I have to pay for college on my own so when I found that I received this scholarship, it lifted a little bit of the weight off my shoulders knowing that I had a little less that I would have to pay or be in debt later on.  If I was able to talk to my donor, I would definitely give them a big thank you for raising the money and assisting me to pay for my college tuition.  I hope to get more involved throughout the years, get involved with community service, do well academically and do well in the Nursing program."

"My dad was always a huge UC fan.  He always got us rooting for UC and doing all that kind of stuff.  When we went and visited last year, he was so excited to be here, and seeing the excitement on his face kind of came back to me and I was like, “Wow, he really loves this school and I kind of want to be the same.”  By going here and starting in September, I realize that it’s not just him that loves this school, it’s me too.  Walking the same halls that he did, and going to the same spots that he used to hang out too, it kind of just strengthens our bond as father-daughter.  We always have something to talk about now and, through this scholarship, it kind of solidified that feeling that we have for each other.

By getting this scholarship, it kind of eased a little bit of my financial worries.  I have more opportunities now…I want to go study abroad somewhere and maybe with the money I save through this scholarship I can use that to go do something somewhere else.  If I met my donor, I would just show how thankful I am that I received that scholarship because through that, it eased my worries and it was the first one that I got so it really did show me that I have a place at UC and that they’re willing to help me with anything I want to do.  This scholarship also showed me that not only does my dad believe that I can go here and succeed but so do they."
