The broadest and best of
clinical and didactic training

The faculty and staff of the Department of Anesthesiology at UC Medical Center are proud of our residents and the training we provide. We aim to produce consummate consultants in anesthesiology and we provide an excellent stipend to those who qualify for our program.

Camaraderie, fairness,
equality and mutual respect

Here, we value an atmosphere of camaraderie, fairness, equality and mutual respect, as you can see in our Chief Resident's comments on the program. We pattern our curriculum after the ABA-ASA Joint Council on In-Training Examinations content outline. Residents and faculty place equal emphasis on didactics and clinical teaching. Our teaching staff support the seven critical areas of anesthesiology training onsite, including:

  • Cardiac anesthesia (with emphasis on transesophageal echocardiography)
  • Thoracic anesthesia
  • Neurological anesthesia (with emphasis on advanced neourlogic monitoring)
  • Obstetric anesthesia (with emphasis on anesthesia for high risk
    obstetrics)
  • Pediatric anesthesia
  • Regional anesthesia/pain management
  • Critical care medicine
  • Research

Outstanding experience in trauma,
transplantation, pediatrics and pain management

UC Medical Center is a Level I Trauma Center, giving residents significant opportunities in anesthesia for trauma surgery. Our position as a regional transplant center offers substantial experience in cardiac, hepatic and renal transplantation. A pulmonary transplantation program is under development. In addition, our post-residency fellowship programs in pediatric anesthesia and pain management are nationally recognized.

Excellent preparation for success

In the recent past, our residents consistently have scored in the upper 25th percentile on the ABA-ASA In-Training Examination and routinely have been successful in earning board certification. Most graduates have chosen private practice positions in Greater Cincinnati and throughout the United States. Pain management and pediatrics fellows have gone on to universities and major teaching hospitals. Our recent Alumni.
