Seventeen new scholarship Cadets and four newly commissioned Army officers were
recognized last Thursday evening at the University of Cincinnati’s first
home football game against S.E. Missouri State.
Aside from the Bearcats’ big win, UC’s
ROTC department was thrilled to announce the
induction of their largest freshman class in
several years.
“I’m very excited about what this
incoming freshman class brings to the Bearcat
Battalion,” said Lt. Col. John Bautch,
the department’s Scholarship and Enrollment
Officer. “We’ve been very fortunate
to gain a considerably larger number of four
year Army ROTC scholarships here at UC for this
school year.”
The entire Armed Forces Day operation was conducted
over two days and put together by ROTC’s
staff of Gold Bar Recruiters. Aside from the
game, events included a tailgate party, an Army
Physical Fitness Test, and concluded with the
contracting and commissioning of four new cadets
and four Second Lieutenants.
“To be truthfully honest,” said
Kyle Harris, an ROTC scholarship winner, “Armed
Forces Night was overall pretty sweet. I can’t
wait for next year.”
“We’re proud that the students
have stepped up and made a commitment to become
Army ROTC Bearcat Cadets,” said Bautch. “They’ve
taken the first step toward becoming commissioned
officers in the US Army. This is just as much
a victory for the entire University as it is
for the Army ROTC program at UC.”
