What drew me to Rotc at UC?
Having just come off active duty and reenlisting in the Ohio Army National Guard, I spent some time in the ranks as an enlisted soldier once again wondering what to do with my life and military career. I knew for some time that I did not want to spend the rest of my life in the ranks as an enlisted soldier. So I decided to check out the Rotc program and see what UC had to offer. Upon my arrival to the Rotc building I was greeted by several of the Cadets along with the Cadre, whom I was very impressed with by the shear professionalism and demeanor that they had shown towards myself. From that point on I knew that I wanted to be apart of the UC Rotc program and to become an Army Officer.
As a former active duty soldier I found the following things very appealing about the Rotc program: Such that Rotc provides you with the chance not only to develop and fine tune your leadership skills, it also allows you to demonstrate your abilities as a leader. Whether your in charge of a Pt session or simply giving a block of instruction to fellow cadets on how to employ the M18A1 Claymore mine. You will have many opportunities to be an active leader and mentor to your fellow cadets. It would be hard to imagine going to school and only living off my G.I. Bill, however as a Cadet you will receive a monthly subsistence that helps pay for books and other expenses. If you want to take it one step further, you could join the Ohio Army National Guard and become and SMP (Simultaneous Membership Program) Cadet. Being a Cadet and a member of the National Guard, simply meaning that you will receive 100% college tuition from the OANG, your G.I. Bill, ROTC Stipend and drill pay, which together can add up to quite a bit of money, simply to help aid your cause in becoming a Future Warrior Leader.
