Lifeguarding Full Class
Get certified at the Rec. Work anywhere this Summer!
This February and March, the Campus Recreation Center is offering the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course. Since ARC certifications are recognized across the nation, those who complete the course can work anywhere in the country!
Course dates: February 27 and March 6, 5 - 8:30 p.m.
February 28 and March 7, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
March 1 and 8, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
In accordance with ARC standards, attendance at all six class dates above is mandatory and participants must be at least 15 years old by the last day of class.
A skills pretest is required and will occur at 5 p.m. on February 27. The three skills are:
- Swim 300 yards without stopping. The swim must be completed by swimming 100 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of breaststroke, and 100 yards of the swimmer's choice of either of those. This portion of the pre-test has no time limit.
- Swim 20 yards, go to the bottom of the pool, at least 10 feet deep, and retrieve a 10 pound brick. The swimmer must keep both hands on the brick, and return to the starting point on his or her back, in under 100 seconds.
- Swimmers will tread water for two minutes with arms crossed over their chest and hands under their armpits.
Cost: $210 for members, $250 for non-members. Fees include the cost of course materials for the participant.
Other locations can charge up to $350 for the same course. Sign up to get certified at the Campus Recreation Center and save at least $100.
Call 556-0604 or stop by the Member Services desk at the Rec Center, to register. Registration is still being taken if participants are willing to accept a digital copy of the book.
Cancelation Policy: If a registered person needs to cancel within two weeks of February 28, a refund will be given less $60 in administrative fees and material costs.
