Lifeguard Review Class
This Spring, the Campus Recreation Center is offering the American Red Cross Lifeguard Review Course. This class will renew the certification of currently certified ARC Lifeguards.
Review #1: February 7, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and February 8, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Review #2: March 14 and 15, 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
In accordance with ARC standards, participants must be currently certified American Red Cross lifeguards, attend all classes, and be at least 15 years old by the last day of class.
A skills pretest is required and will occur at the start of the review class. The three skills are:
- Swim 300 yards without stopping. The swim must be completed by swimming 100 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of breaststroke, and 100 yards of the swimmer's choice of either of those. This portion of the pre-test has no time limit.
- Swim 20 yards, go to the bottom of the pool, at least 10 feet deep, and retrieve a 10 pound brick. The swimmer must keep both hands on the brick, and return to the starting point on their back, in under 100 seconds.
- Swimmers will tread water for two minutes with their hands crossed over their chest and placed under their arm pits.
Cost: $125 for members, $150 for non-members. Fees include the cost of course materials for the participant.
Other locations can charge up to $200 for the same course. Sign up to get certified at the Campus Recreation Center and save at least $50.
