CDC Services for Employers

If you have employment opportunities or anticipate vacancies that require the competencies of college-educated individuals, then you should seriously consider taking advantage of the following services for employers.

The On-Campus Recruiting Program

Beginning each year in October and ending in May, this program attracts employers from around the country to conduct on-campus interviews with graduating students for positions within their organizations. CDC utilizes InterviewTRAK software for on-campus recruiting. This system will allow employers 24-hour access to our system, enabling you to submit company contact information, post a position description for On-Campus Recruiting, pre-select candidates for interviews, view your interview schedule and conveniently view registered UC students’ resumes on-line.

Our college recruitment software partner MonsterTRAK, launched MonsterTRAK Hiring Solutions for first time users, and for employers with existing accounts.  MonsterTRAK Hiring Solutions allows you to consolidate your MonsterTRAK and InterviewTRAK accounts so that you can manage both from the same platform.  Additionally, these changes will allow you to recruit across multiple campuses with one simple log in, if you wish.  In order to access your InterviewTRAK account and take advantage of MonsterTRAK Hiring Solutions, you must change your user name and password from the Account Number based scheme previously used with MonsterTRAK.  When you next log-in to MonsterTRAK, you will be required to make that change.  Below you will find instructions on how to update your user name and password using the new MonsterTRAK Hiring Solutions platform.

Pre-Screening Opportunities

Pre-screening helps recruiters identify candidates with outstanding potential for their interview schedules prior to their visit. Please note that resumes may be used only for the purpose of identifying potential employment candidates and are only made available to third party agencies per each student’s designation.

Presentations / Informational Nights

You may hold an on-campus “information night” meeting for students prior to the day of your campus interviews. Meeting information may be posted to students via your InterviewTRAK Account.  You will need to inform us of your meeting so that we can help arrange and publicize your program. While we do help publicize these events, we are unable to guarantee attendance. Please reconfirm plans a few days prior to your meeting to assure satisfactory arrangements. You have the capability to track the number of students who sign up for attendance at your meeting via your InterviewTRAK account.  You have the option of designating whether or not student attendance is mandatory. You should designate mandatory attendance at a pre-recruiting meeting within your job description.

Career Resources

The Career Development Center has a comprehensive collection of career resources including employer information, job market data, and career exploration materials and tools. Employers are invited to forward company information to CDC, especially if they are planning to recruit on campus. Such information is very useful to students preparing for their job interviews. Company literature should be forwarded to the Career Development Center as close as possible to your scheduled on-campus recruiting date. We advise our students to utilize information about organizations obtained on the internet to prepare for interviews. Computers are available at CDC to access the internet. Once you reserve your recruiting date with our office, we establish a link from our “Companies Participating in On-Campus Recruiting” to your organization’s home page. You can this page at

http://www.uc.edu/career/Students/ocr_companies.htm.

Student Resume Database

Current resumes of UC graduating students, participating in On-Campus Recruiting are maintained on InterviewTRAK.  These electronic resumes can be made available to employers upon request through Patti Carroll, at 513-556-0313.  Students enter their resumes on-line via CDC’s InterviewTRAK system when they register for On-Campus Recruiting. Employers will receive resumes from CDC via email.

Alumni Access

The Career Development Center provides several services to alumni, including computer-based guidance/assessment tools.  Alums may also obtain web access to a variety of on-line resources, including MonsterTRAK.com.  The four annual career fairs, the annual Worldfest International Career Forum, and job search workshops are all open to alums.

Salary Information

The Career Resource Center maintains current local and national salary information about graduating students to assist you in making competitive offers to desired candidates. These figures are updated at the end of each quarter. Call us for national data compiled by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).

Part-time, Summer, and Internship Recruitment

The Job Location and Development Program (JLD) provides screening and referral of student applicants for your part-time, summer, or temporary employment needs. At CDC, we encourage students to pursue opportunities to further their career development and personal growth. Interns and other experiential learning students can offer organizations assistance with special projects and daily tasks that might not otherwise be economically possible. These students also offer fresh perspectives and knowledge gained from their academic programs. For further information on part-time, summer, temporary, or internship vacancies, please contact Arthur Walton, Student Employment Coordinator at (513) 556-0316.

CDC Employers Newsletter

CDC Employers Newsletter, a newsletter for employers, is published by CDC twice yearly at the beginning of fall and winter quarters. It is circulated on-line to over 1,000 corporate recruiters and employing organizations. CDC Employers Newsletter keeps you current with UC’s campus and CDC services as you plan your campus visit.  Past newsletters can be found at http://www.uc.edu/career/Employers/cdcnewsletter.htm.

International Students Access

The University is privileged to have among its student body more than 1,500 international students who may be interested in interviewing with your representative. Please indicate your citizenship requirements in the citizenship requirements box to assist the international students in determining eligibility and your interest in their candidacy. Unless otherwise requested, we consider students with the Permanent Residency Visa the same as U.S. citizens.

Posters

You may send CDC large posters and displays.  We will be happy to post them as space allows.

Faculty Contacts

CDC can assist you with establishing faculty contacts. Faculty can provide in-depth information regarding specific academic program requirements, provide valuable linkages to other faculty and administrators, and make employers aware of relevant programs and activities associated with the various colleges. You will find it easier to make appointments with faculty if your contact with the college is made several weeks or days prior to your arrival on campus. Same day requests for luncheon invitations are sometimes difficult to accomplish.

Career Fairs

The University of Cincinnati sponsors five career fairs each year – three in-person events and two totally online. Over 4,000 students annually attend our career fairs.

  • November - Ethnic Student Career Fair.  (ADVANCE Networking Reception - evening before)
  • February - Virtual Career Fair
  • March – Big East Career Fair
  • March-April – Big East E-Fair
  • April -  Bearcat Trackers Careerfest

Ten Steps to Successful On-Campus Recruiting

The Career Development Center uses an employer pre-screening system for campus interview sign-ups. We adopted this system to provide the most productive interviews possible for you as employers. This system enables us to direct students more effectively to opportunities in which they may have a realistic chance of achieving employment success. Please review the following guidelines to help you understand our procedures.

  1. For a complete overview of on-campus recruiting, click here www.uc.edu/career/Employers/empocr_new.htm.   You, the employer, access InterviewTRAK on-line at www.monsterTRAK.com.   Instructions for setting up an on-campus visit can be found here, Directions for arranging On Campus Recruiting interview date.

  2. CDC will publicize your visit, the types of positions for which you are interviewing, and the preferred educational background for these positions. Registered students interested in your organization will submit their resumes to you for consideration. The number of resumes you receive depends upon the requirements, the attractiveness of your available positions, how familiar students are with your organization, and your own selection criteria in filling positions. Students self-screen based on your specified qualifications. Your specific selection criteria are viewed directly by registered students. This narrows your candidate pool to only those students meeting your specifications.

  1. If you follow our time sequence very carefully, you will have 4 days upon receiving the students resumes to screen and pre-select those candidates you wish to interview Timely attention to these resumes will insure success in completing this process. Resumes are submitted through InterviewTRAK.

An interview schedule accommodates 14 students, and you should pick an equivalent number of students per schedule. You may pick fewer and ask us to fill open spots on

a first-come, first-served basis. If you desire a change from the normal schedule, such as 45-minute instead of 30-minute interviews or a 1 1/2 hour lunch break to meet with

faculty,  it is essential that you let us know prior to your visit so that we can limit open sign-ups.  Because we guarantee students a position on the schedule if you have

selected them to be interviewed, please provide enough recruitment time to interview each student that you select.

  1. We strongly urge you not to select students based solely upon grade point average or any other single factor. There is a broad array of talent among UC’s student population. Should you see a student with outstanding credentials who might not fit into your normal recruiting constraints, we encourage you to consider selecting this student for an interview as well. You might be quite pleased at the student’s qualities and capabilities.

  1. Please be aware that students submit resumes only for positions for which they match the company criteria. However, students who have a sincere interest in a position but who do not have the stated qualifications may be able to make a strong case that although their background does not exactly match all requirements, they posses prior experiences that are closely aligned with the employer’s needs.  These students may be allowed to submit their resumes for review only after CDC has contacted you for approval.

  1. Please inform us if you plan to include other students on your interview schedules than those students who have submitted their resume to you for interview consideration. Students from other sources will not be recognized by CDC’s on-campus recruiting computer system. This will present difficulties, as these students will be unable to access our sign-up system.

  1. We also stress the importance of reporting to us, on time, the names of those students you have selected to interview. The specific deadline date for reporting selected candidates is 10 days prior to your on-campus recruiting date. If you need special accommodations, please contact our Recruiting Coordinator.

  1. Approximately 4 days before your scheduled visit to UC, the interview schedule containing those students you selected will be available.

  2. Should you determine that you have not established enough schedules to accommodate all of the students you would like to interview, please contact us immediately about adding additional schedules.  We will be happy to accommodate you provided space is available.

  1. You will not be expected to respond to students you have not selected in your resume screening. Students who submit a resume for initial screening, but who are not selected for an interview, are advised not to expect any further contact from you.

No-Show Policy

A student who signs on a company’s interview appointment schedule, but does not show up at the scheduled time to interview is considered a No-Show. We fully understand that No-Show students take away interview opportunities from other students and greatly inconvenience employers who come to our campus with the express intention of interviewing selected students. Therefore we have strenuous policies with regard to “No-Shows” and communicate this information to all students involved in on-campus recruiting.

If you have a No-Show student on your recruiting day, please complete a No-Show Card and return it to the CDC receptionist as soon as possible. A No-Show student must write a letter of apology to the recruiting representative and provide a copy of the letter for his/her CDC file.

Interview Schedule Information

Interviews begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. unless you specify otherwise.  If you are arranging multiple schedules for different positions and would like to have each schedule held for a specific type of job, please so indicate. Your day will include morning and afternoon breaks and a one-hour break for lunch. If you would like other arrangements (eliminate a break, extend the lunch, etc.) let us know in advance.

Interview Day Check-in

In order to receive information about schedules and be directed to the interviewing room, your representative should plan to arrive one-half hour prior to the first interview. Please allow at least one hour driving time both to and from the Greater Cincinnati Airport! If it appears that early morning or late afternoon interviews will pose difficulties for your representatives from a travel standpoint, please limit the number of interviews to be scheduled.

Because of drive time from the airport and possible delays on Interstate 75, it is recommended that you arrive the night before your recruiting date. You should also plan to reserve a flight out of Cincinnati no earlier than 7:00 p.m. on the day of your visit.

Lunch

Lunch is usually scheduled from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. For your convenience, we have arranged for a CDC staff member to accompany you to lunch at Mick & Mack’s Restaurant on the main floor of the Tangeman University Center.  We have reserved an On-Campus Recruiting Employer Table at Mick & Mack’s.  Please meet in the lobby no later than 12:45 p.m. to be accompanied to this facility.  Your CDC Representative is there to expedite meal service, to talk with you about recruiting, your company’s hiring needs and to escort you back to CDC in a timely manner for your afternoon interviews.

Please note CDC is unable to pay for Recruiter Lunches due to budget constraints.

Please return the Luncheon Card you will receive upon arrival no later than 10:00 a.m. to a CDC staff member or the Receptionist, if you will be joining us at the On-Campus Recruiting Employer Table at Mick and Mack’s for lunch today.

CDC -- always at your service!

Historical Sketch

The University of Cincinnati traces its origins to 1819, the year of the founding of the Cincinnati College and the Medical College of Ohio.  In 1870 the City of Cincinnati, under a state act “to enable cities of the first class to aid and promote education,” established the University of Cincinnati, which later absorbed these colleges.  In 1906, the University of Cincinnati created the first cooperative study-experience programs which now serve over 1,300 firms with 3,500 students in the metropolitan area alone.

For many years the country’s second oldest and second largest municipal university, the University of Cincinnati became the first municipally sponsored, state-affiliated university in 1968, and achieved full state university status in July 1, 1977. Located on five campuses, the university consists of 18 component colleges and divisions that provide a comprehensive range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs and comprise the complex of learning, research and public service that gives it national and international renown.

Accreditation

The University of Cincinnati is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, is a member of the National Commission on Accrediting, is recognized by the Ohio State Department of Education, and has professional accreditation in many specialized fields.
