CDC Predicts Banner Year  for FREE On Campus  Recruiting

2007-2008 promises to be a banner year for the Career Development Center's (CDC) On-Campus Recruiting (OCR) service, according to Patti Carroll, Coordinator.

"Over 60 employers have already scheduled campus interviews for Fall Quarter,  doubling the number scheduled this time last year," states Carroll.  Over 200 students in various majors have already signed up for these campus interviews, probably motivated by the fact that CDC has abolished the On-Campus Recruiting Fee, for the first time in over 12 years, previously assessed to offset major budget cuts to CDC.

With OCR now being a FREE service, seniors in the job market need to jump start  their job search immediately to take full advantage of the service throughout their senior year.  On Campus recruiting begins October 1st.  “Employers who interview Fall Quarter, may not return Winter or Spring Quarter, if they reach their UC hiring targets fall quarter,” asserts Jim Novak, CDC's Associate Director in charge of OCR.

Novak says that UC hosts 200 - 300 local, regional and national employers annually, for on-campus interviews, representing a variety of organizations including government, business, health, education, criminal justice, arts and social service organizations.   These employers schedule formal interviews at CDC to hire UC students to fill their internship and full-time opportunities.  Although many of these employers are businesses, they frequently interview a variety of majors for some of their prized positions.  Employers scheduled to recruit Fall Quarter include: Lincoln Electric, Macy’s Inc., KPMG, LLP., Wal-Mart Stores, Fifth Third Bank, Messer Construction, Paycor, and more…

Graduating students -- seniors and graduate students -- can now conveniently register for OCR on-line; download their resumes, which are electronically sorted according to employer criteria, then automatically forwarded to participating employers.  "Employers screen and pre-select our students for these formal interviews,” cautions Novak, “so students can't just check the employer list and just show up!"

Employers expect student candidates to be prepared with a stellar resume (critiqued by CDC professional staff ) skillfully linking their career objective to employer needs. "You must thoroughly research the organization via the company website to have a competitive advantage in the interview.  You gain this advantage by attending the Employer Information Nights coordinated by CDC and by taking  full advantage of CDC's employer-conducted Video Mock Interviews and CDC's Video Stream on-line interview preparation technology."advises Novak.   Many of our students don't plan to fail, but fail to plan for their interviews."
