U.C. Credentials File Holders Who Have Received Notification Regarding The Elimination of the Credentials File Service

The Career Development Center, at the University of Cincinnati is discontinuing our Credentials File Service effective May 1, 2001. We are no longer able to provide this service.

The challenge of maintaining a Credentials Service is not unique to U.C. National trends suggest that this type of service is being eliminated by Career Centers nationally. Education majors and those seeking employment in the field of education are now self-managing their credentials file or obtaining the services of on-line professional credentials services.

In light of the elimination of the credentials service, please take note of the following:

• CDC will continue to maintain all active files until the end of their eligibility period. Current file holders also have the option of taking possession of their file by requesting to do so in writing no later than 30 days from the date of their notification. (Letters of recommendation to which you have waived your rights to view, will remain with the University.) Outdated credentials records will be destroyed.

• Individuals who wish to self-manage their files can access a copy of helpful tips on processing one’s own credentials file on this website.

• If you have received approval and wish your file to be sent to another U.C. academic department that will process your credential files, please indicate this designation on the Release Form.

• File holders who wish to have their files maintained and processed professionally, may consider using a professional credentials processing service. There are a number of fee-based services available. Information on one such service, Reference Now can be accessed at www.referencenow.com. Your entire file can be sent to this service including confidential letters of recommendation. Other web-based services exist that you may also wish to explore via the web.

A Credential File Release Form is provided on this website that you can fill out and return to us indicating specifically what you wish for us to do with your file.

We are sorry that we can no longer provide this service for you and we hope that this information will provide you with suitable alternatives. Our intent is to enable a smooth transition for those who currently use our service.
