What Can I Do with a Major in...Computer Engineering?

Computer Engineering

Description of Major

Computer Engineering is the design and analysis of computer hardware and software. The Computer Engineering program at the University of Cincinnati integrates pertinent science and mathematics courses with Electrical Engineering and Computer courses in order to develop an engineer capable of designing and analyzing all aspects of modern computer systems.

Skills & Knowledge Developed in this Field of Study

The computer engineering curriculum is designed to provide a balanced education in the design and analysis of both computer software and computer hardware. A graduate from this program is uniquely qualified to engineer every aspect of digital electronic systems, including the generation of system specifications, design of state-of-the-art digital computer systems, analysis of computer systems, and the design and testing of computers and software applications. The computer engineering education at UC is based on a challenging five-year curriculum that integrates courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, computer engineering, and computer science to produce a professional engineer capable of designing and analyzing all aspects of modern networked computer systems.

Career Options

As a computer engineer, you can pursue careers relevant to the development and analysis of digital electronic systems. They design systems, generate system specifications, and develop technical computer applications. Graduates may also find employment as test or marketing engineers for computer hardware or software.

With additional graduate study, you can pursue high technology design, engineering research, or other advanced information processing careers.
