Curriculum Vitae
 

The Curriculum Vitae - the "CV" - is the traditional resume for academics.  The CV also is used in other professions such as laboratory research and medicine.  If you are applying to graduate school, or for a position in an academic setting, the CV format is the most familiar to those evaluating your application.

The major differences between the CV and other formats are:

  • The CV does not normally include a career objective statement.
  • Unlike the standard resume, personal pronouns are acceptable.
  • The CV is expected to include references.
  • The length of the CV is open-ended; in fact, brevity is not usually desirable.
  • CVs often contain more categories; experience may be divided into Research and Teaching.
  • The CV includes descriptions of research projects and dissertations.

    meaning of 'the good'.  The defense is scheduled for April, 2001.  I anticipate several
    publishable papers to be developed from the dissertation within the next 18 months.
