What
Can I Do with a Major in...DAAP?
Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning
(DAAP)
Description of Majors
Design
The School of Design offers a Bachelor of Science in Design degree
with major emphasis in Fashion
Design, Graphic
Design, Industrial
Design, and Digital
Design. All programs participate in a mandatory professional
practice opportunity which permits students to have quarters of
meaningful professionally related experience integrated with academic
quarters of study on campus. The School of Design also recognizes new
areas of design practice related to recent advances in computer
technology. The development of new applications has upgraded the use
of computers to a primary methodology for advancing design. The school
provides opportunities for those who wish to pursue an education in
this new area. As part of the College of Design, Architecture, Art,
and Planning, the programs in the School of Design are accredited by
the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.
Art
The School of Art offers
undergraduate degrees in Art History and Fine Arts under the guidance
of their respective faculties, with an option for art teacher
certification for those majors with an interest in public school
teaching. Art teacher certification may be elected in either degree
program, the BA in Art History or the BFA in Fine Arts. In both cases,
the certification option requires a fifth, post-baccalaureate year to
complete. Special study requirements are described separately for Art
History and Fine Arts in the college bulletin. These requirements may
be modified as the College of Education determines our need for
further professional studies in education as part of the initiative.
Enrollees will be advised of these as they occur. As part of the
College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning, the Art History
program and Fine Arts program are accredited by the National
Association of Schools of Arts and Design (NASAD).
Architecture
The School of
Architecture and Interior Design offers undergraduate professional
degrees in Architecture and Interior Design. Both programs participate
in a mandatory professional practice opportunity which permits
students to have quarters of meaningful professionally related
experience integrated with academic quarters of study on campus. The
Bachelor of Architecture degree at the University of Cincinnati has
been accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB)
since 1948 and its courses satisfy requirements maintained by various
state architectural registration boards. It has been a member of the
Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture since 1924. The
Interior Design program is accredited by the Foundation for Interior
Design Education Research (FIDER) and recognized by the Interior
Design Educators Council
Planning
The programs of the School of Planning prepare students from a
variety of backgrounds for careers in the professional practice of
planning and various allied fields at the entry level (Bachelors), the
more advanced (Master's) and the mid-career (accelerated Master's).
Graduates work at local, regional, state, national and international
levels in both the public and private sectors. Typical employers of
planners are municipal governments, regional planning agencies,
development authorities, NGOs, engineering consultancies, land
developers and legal organizations. Planning education integrates a
wide range of disciplines (e.g., design, economics, geography,
sociology, political science, engineering, etc.), producing
professionals of great flexibility. Specializations are offered
in urban design, physical planning, economic and/or international
development, environmental planning and community environmental health
policy planning.
