Visit
to Employer's Plant or Office
These are some
factors to consider when visiting a prospective employer's plant or office.
-
How are invitations made?
-
by Recruiter during campus interview
- seldom
-
by telephone or mailgram - sometimes
-
by letter, 1-3 weeks after interview
- usually
-
Be sure instructions are clear - when, where,
and how you are to go.
If you are going to be late, have a number to call.
-
Prior to your interview, be sure that you understand which
travel expenses the employing organization will assume.
-
Further instructions direct you to plant or office at a
specific time.
-
During the day you will probably interview with the
personnel representative, supervisors, department heads, managers.
This is an opportunity for them and you to determine how well you will fit
into the organization.
-
Lunch - usually in a house cafeteria followed by a tour of
facilities and more interviews, possibly a test. Always be at your
best. You are being evaluated throughout your stay.
-
"Wrap up session" with personnel will terminate
trip.
-
Jot down names of people who interview you.
-
Do not be disturbed if two or more interview you at one
session.
-
Send thank you note(s) upon return home, expressing interest
if you are interested.
