I. PURPOSE OF A RESUME
- Advertisement of self - your personal advertising brochure.
- Information about your qualifications that will show how you can
benefit prospective employers.
- Means of relating skills,
achievements, qualifications, personal qualities, interests and strengths.
- Education
- Institutions
- Degrees, years granted
- GPA - if applicable
- Major and minor, optional
- Course emphasis - if applicable
- Vocational training - if applicable to job
- Means of financing education - if applicable
- Work experience - what, where, when
- Full-time work
- Part-time work
- Volunteer work if related to job search
- Internships, practicums, professional experience
- Special Skills (optional)
- Skills relating to career objective and/or to job target
- Special licenses
- Foreign language proficiencies (if applicable)
- Discoveries and inventions credited to you
- Activities, Honors, Affiliations, Organizations (optional)
- Community activities and involvement
- School organizations and activities (offices held)
- Membership in honorary societies
- Dean’s list, when achieved
- Interests and hobbies (if applicable)
III. REFERENCE PAGE
- List approximately 3 individuals
- Persons who are familiar with your educational accomplishments
- Persons who are familiar with your capabilities and/or work
experience
- May state References furnished upon request at the bottom of the
resume.
- References may be listed with name, title, address, phone number,
and e-mail address (on a separate sheet, matching the resume paper).
- Device to create interest, to get an interview, to get your foot
in the door.
II. CONTENTS OF A RESUME
- Identification - name, address, and phone
- Career Objective - logical and meaningful statement describing in
a concise manner one’s immediate and possible long-range career
goals. Use as specific a title as possible without being too
restrictive.
