International Students: Working in the United States
 Issues to consider:

The United States Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and the sponsoring agencies of international students impose rules and procedures on the employment of international students. Because each student’s situation is different, you are strongly encouraged to talk with the International Student Services Office (ISSO) in regard to your specific situation.

International Student Services Office is located in Edwards Center One on the seventh floor in Room 773. Contact ISSO to determine your eligibility to work. All F-1 and J-1 international students are authorized to work on campus 20 hours per week while school is in session. There is no hourly limitation during scheduled breaks (i.e. summer, winter).

Locate on-campus jobs at  UC’s Student Employment Services website which not only allows you to view on campus job opportunities but to apply online. Not all positions are posted online. Identify the type of work that you would like to do and which departments may need your assistance. If you are interested in working for a certain college or department, contact them directly to identify available positions.

You may work only on campus, unless granted permission by ISSO/INS to work off campus. Details on your eligibility to work off campus can be found at ISSO.

The ISSO can provide you with information on visa status, tax filing, and immigration, as well as upcoming social events.
