Computer Services Department Policies for Labs and Computer Classrooms

Students are bound to the University Student Code of Conduct at all times while in Applied Science Uptown Campus Computer Labs. This can be found at http://www.sald.uc.edu/.

University Computer Services Department staff reserve the right to ask anyone in the lab for identification. Individuals without proper identification will be asked to leave. If individuals do not cooperate, the University Police will be called.


Food and drinks are not permitted in Applied Science Uptown Campus Computer Labs under any circumstances. If a violation is observed, ask the individual to cease, or report it to a staff member of the Computer Services Department immediately.


Sharing your login ID and password with anyone is a violation of university security policy. Under no circumstances are passwords to be shared nor is anyone to use a computer which has been logged on to the network with someone else’s account, regardless of consent. If a student has an account problem, it is it can be resolved through the Lab Assistant on duty. Faculty and staff may contact the University Computer Help Desk. Temporary accounts can be created for special circumstances.


Disruptive behavior such as loud talking will not be condoned in an open lab. People behaving in a disruptive way will be asked by Computer Services Department staff to cease immediately.

Also, it is not acceptable for anyone to bring items into a lab which may be disruptive or a safety risk, such as radios, skateboards or bicycles.

Headphones may be used in classroom labs with consent of the instructor, or in open labs, but the volume must not be distracting to other students in the lab. Individuals will be asked to remove disruptive items or cease to use them.

Children are not permitted in any of the open Applied Science Uptown Campus Computer Labs.. University Computer Services Department staff will ask parents or caretakers to remove children immediately. Lack of cooperation may be cause to call the University Police.


Open labs are for students to do homework. Game playing is to be kept to a minimum. In any case where a lab is full and a student needs a computer to do schoolwork, anyone playing games will be asked to give up their seat.


Defacing college equipment or attempting to remove any equipment without proper permission will be reported to University authorities immediately. Copying software from Applied Science Uptown Campus Computer Network, or while logged in to the network is illegal and strictly prohibited. Installing software without proper authorization is strictly prohibited. Leaving your workstation unattended while logged in to the Applied Science Uptown Campus Computer Network may be subject to logout without notice.


A ‘lost & found’ service is located in the lab assistant area in L211 Sander Hall and in L221 French Hall. Items can be claimed by contacting the lab assistant on duty.
