"It's about the Students" The Construction Science Seniors at the University of Cincinnati?s College of Applied Science were challenged to demonstrate their leadership development through-out their college career. Being one of the top Construction Science Department?s in the nation, the senior class took the challenge head on. The Senior Class of 2005 decided upon the creation of a scholarship fund. This fund has become known as the 2005 Fund. We encourage other students & faculty to give to UC. Since the 2005 Fund?s conception, the fund has managed to amass pledges and gifts close to $15,000; what is most important to note is that the participation of the senior student body is near 100%. The collected funds were placed in a hold account so that the money could be later directed to an endowment or gift fund. The Construction Science Leadership class instructor, Greg Sizemore, generously donated the lead gift to establish the fund. Peter Strange, Messer Construction, Mass & Kern families of the JTM Food Group, Ted Kennedy, BE&K, and Robert Volkman all made generous donations. The senior class has organized three sub-committees to collect more contributions from surrounding companies and individual contributors. These three sub-committees; corporate donations, raffle assembly, and casino nights were created to help raise the $25,000 required for endowing the fund to the College of Applied Science. Dean Richard Newrock, & Department Chair Ben Uwakweh, supported the campaign by recruiting donors with matching gifts. Using networking and professional connections, the senior class will be successful in reaching the goal amounts and more. This should set an example demonstrating leadership in action to the students and faculty that pass through the gates of the College of Applied Science & Construction Science Department. |
