Select the tab (along the bottom of the spreadsheet) for the co-op schedule you
prefer or have been assigned.
Transfer students highlight the
course which transferred as shown on the curriculum sheet from Student
Services.
Be sure to rename the spreadsheet and put your name, UC e-mail address and M# at the top of
the page.
E-mail the spreadsheet to Prof. Caldwell, laura.caldwell@uc.edu
, your MET academic advisor, so that the Department will have it on file.

You must have a 2.0 cumulative college gpa the quarter before you interview and you must be a full-time

credit hours is 12 or greater at the end of the 2nd week of classes.
If I
drop a course and go below full time, does it affect my health insurance?
Some family insurance
plans require an adult child or spouse to be a full-time student to qualify
under the plan. CHECK YOUR COVERAGE

allow W, NG, NP, I or F grades. Check
the web site for more answers. http://www.onestop.uc.edu/health.html
What is
academic credit for life experience and how do I apply for it?
Course credit is sometimes granted for work experience. Request the syllabus for the course of your experience from the Department Secretary, Sharon Knecht, 556-6573, Sharon.knecht@uc.edu . Develop a portfolio of your work showing that you have knowledge of the content and level of at least 80% of the course (and lab). Include supervisor(s) signatures of the claimed experience. Submit the portfolio with the course name and number to Dean Patrick Kumpf, A208.
Will
I be able to get into graduate school with the BSMET degree?
UC College of Engineering offers a Master of Engineering degree which is project oriented instead of research. https://www.grad.uc.edu/programs/EMGT-MENG/ Some of your Technical Elective classes may need to be math classes to assure acceptance.
Two
Universities with MS in Engineering Technology are University of North Texas
and East Tennessee State University. A
Google search for “master of engineering” will offer other possibilities.
Some
ME masters programs accept BSMET’s. One
know to do so is Ohio State.
Will I be
able to take the PE exam with the BSMET degree?
Since our BSMET program is TAC/ABET accredited, you are eligible to take the Fundamentals exam and the PE exam.
See http://www.peps.ohio.gov/4733/473311.aspx . Students are encouraged to take the Fundamentals Exam either in April of their senior year or October after they graduate. http://www.ohiopeps.org/exams/student.html . BSMET graduates are eligible to take the PE exam after 8 years of experience in the field.
What
opportunities do I have for international experiences?

MET FAQ for
Prospective/Accepted Students
What is
the difference between MET and Mechanical Engineering?
MET is a less theoretical version of ME. We approach a design by simplifying it to algebra and trig instead of calculus when possible and study enough theory to know when simplification is not appropriate. Our answer will not be optimized but will be developed quickly and will work. We study and use calculus and differential equation for complex designs. We excel at implementing the design because the MET curriculum includes labs and projects with all courses and the senior design requires design, build and test.
What are the requirements to get into this
field?
You need a strong math and science background for MET (advanced math and physics in high school is preferred). We have bridge courses to get you up to speed if you're weak. Contact MET Freshman Advisor Prof. Laura Caldwell, laura.caldwell@uc.edu 513-556-5308.
Entrance requirements (BSMET) are at http://www.uc.edu/degreeprograms/

been accepted to MET. Is there a
recommended laptop? What software should
I buy?
The
recommended computer is on the MET web site www.uc.edu/cas/met under “Min. PC Config.” . You will be able
to buy Office 2007 at the Bookstore for $10.
You will get 9 months free of the Engineering Graphics Software (Solid
Works) when you register for Engineering Design Graphics course. You may want to buy a 2 year license of Solid
works for $140 at http://www.academicsuperstore.com/products/SolidWorks/SolidWorks/919987
Do I have to take the math placement test?
Every entering freshman must take the math placement test. It is taken without a calculator and you may need to review. Example problems and more information can be found at http://math.uc.edu/course/placement/faq.html. Review using the text: Algebra for College Students:3/e, © 2008 | Prentice Hall , ISBN-10: 0136129080 by Allen Angel
Transfer students must take the math placement test if they do not have any recent math transfer courses. You will be notified of your status when you’re accepted to MET.
WARNING – if you score poorly (below 551), it may delay co-op eligibility and/or graduation so review before you take the test.
What math course does my placement score put me in?
261-420 Intro to Tech Math I (32-MATH-021)
421-449 Intro to Tech Math III (32-MATH-023)
450-550 Algebra & Trig I (32-MATH-178)
551-670 Algebra & Trig II (32-MATH-179)
Or College Algebra & Trigonometry (32-MATH-180)
Any score below 551 is considered deficient and will require extra math course(s) and may delay co-op eligibility and/or graduation.
I didn't do as well as I expected on the math placement test. May I
take it again?
You may take the test up to two (2) times with at least three weeks between tests (to review, http://math.uc.edu/course/placement/faq.html and use the text: Algebra for College Students:3/e, © 2008 | Prentice Hall , ISBN-10: 0136129080 by Allen Angel).
Contact Pam Hogeback in A115. Your best score will be used. Under extraordinary circumstances a student may be able to get permission to take the test a third time.
What
English course does my placement score put me in?
1 ENGL 095 (Prep Reading and Writing I, offered only in the CAT)
2 ENGL 097 (Prep Reading and Writing II, offered only in the CAT)
3 ENGL 099
4 ENGL 101B
5 ENGL 101
7 ENGL 112 Advanced English Comp. Offered on Clifton Campus only.
Students are blocked from registering for any class other than the one into which they score. Any score below 5 is considered deficient and will require extra English course(s) and may delay co-op eligibility and/or graduation.
May
I re-take the English placement test?
No. You can not re-take the English placement test.
What
is academic credit for life experience and how do I apply for it?
Course credit is sometimes granted for work experience. Request the syllabus for the course of your experience from the Department Secretary, Sharon Knecht, 556-6573, Sharon.knecht@uc.edu . Develop a portfolio of your work showing that you have knowledge of the content and level of at least 80% of the course (and lab). Include supervisor(s) signatures of the claimed experience. Submit the portfolio with the course name and number to Dr. Al-Ubaidi, A605.
If I were to enter the MET program, what
steps would I need to take to be above average?
To be above average, get A's in the courses and join the honors program. Also participate in the student organization of professional societies (ASME, SME) and participate in student government.
How can an international student apply or transfer to your program?
See the instructions at http://www.admissions.uc.edu/international/default.html
