Serving Students, Industry and the Tri-State

Founded in 1828 as the Ohio Mechanics Institute, the College of Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati (CAS) provides the knowledge and skills graduates and all our area companies need to excel in today’s global market.

The alliance of the college - business - industry continues as strongly today as we proceed into the 21st century as it was entering the last. The college offers many opportunities for firms to capitalize on our knowledge resources, innovative approaches and boundless energy. For more on partnering opportunities click here.

Challenges in Supporting Our Mission

One of the College of Applied Science’s greatest challenges is to provide superior education at an affordable cost. First-year students often have the greatest need, since they often lack the opportunity and experience to earn extra money through co-op jobs. At the same time, technological training requires a considerable investment in equipment, much of which rapidly becomes obsolete. To address these challenges, CAS must ensure that students have scholarship assistance as well as hands-on experience with the most up-to-date equipment so that they can make immediate contributions in their chosen fields after graduation.

Our Invitation

CAS looks to individuals like you who understand the world’s dependence on technology and the critical need for leaders with knowledge and skills to apply technology. Please consider supporting CAS and make an annual, endowed or planned gift to the UC College of Applied Science. You may direct your gift to a specific department, program or fund; or your gift can be unrestricted and go to the College’s most urgent needs. Each gift makes a difference.

Ways to Give

The most common ways donors choose to give have a significant impact at the College of Applied Science.

  • Outright gifts – a current contribution of cash; stocks, bonds or mutual fund shares; real estate and personal property.
  • Pledges – a gift commitment to be paid over a period of one or more years.
  • Gifts-in-kind – transferred assets such as equipment, collections or art.
  • Planned Gift - a gift that may be made through a will, retirement plan, real estate, bargain sale, life insurance policy or other capital assets. Planned gifts are usually outright or deferred.
  • Corporate Matching Gifts – programs where employee gifts of cash, stocks or bonds matched by the employer. Employee’s spouses and company retirees are often eligible for gift matches.

Funding Opportunities

Scholarships
Scholarships are essential to attracting the best and brightest students to CAS. As the cost of education rises, scholarships are becoming increasingly important to today’s students. Many scholarship funds exist at the College, and you may choose to contribute to a specific department’s scholarship fund. A contribution to scholarship funds like the Barbara Barkley Memorial Scholarship Fund, Theodore H. and Mary Meyer Memorial EET Fund or The Forest D. and Gail Atkins Scholarship Fund will help CAS attract high-quality students and open doors for students at CAS.

Dean’s Discretionary Fund
To maintain our excellent status and to prepare our graduates to be leaders in the industry, our faculty and students must continue to have access to state-of-the-art equipment and opportunities for leadership skills. The Dean’s Discretionary Fund supports lab upgrades that keep CAS in step with industry advancements and maintains our leadership role. It is also used to support conferences, symposiums, field trips, student competitions and other experiential learning programs that prepare CAS students for their careers.

Endowments
You may also choose to endow a fund to support a scholarship or other initiative for CAS. Named endowment funds can be created and named to honor or commemorate someone. A minimum gift of $25,000 endows a fund.
