Weekly Workshop Schedules

Introduction to Workshops

The following pages contain a week to week schedule of workshops being offered in the Spring Quarter by the CAT Writing Center.  These workshops are designed to provide students another opportunity to improve their writing skills.  They are, as their name implies, workshops.  Therefore, they are not a substitute for the classroom nor are they a substitute for a one on one tutoring session.  They are an opportunity for students to do two main things:

1)    bring their work in and discuss their concerns and questions with a tutor and other students with similar concerns

 And

2)   receive some advice from tutors who have been working “in the trenches” with the students on the very topics the workshops focus on.

While the object of the workshops is to help students enhance and develop what they have already been exposed to and not teach them anything new, it may be possible that students will be introduced to a new approach or a new strategy they can use to complete their assignments.  Ultimately, the workshops should supplement what is expected of students in the classroom and provide them with some guidance in accomplishing what they have set out to achieve.

Students who know they are going to attend can sign up ahead of time by stopping by the Writing Center in French 2510 or calling 556-1683.  This will ensure them a spot as space will be limited in some workshops.  Students can simply show up but they will run the risk of being turned away if there is not enough room.  Students who sign up for a workshop will be expected to be there when the workshop begins or they may lose their spot.

On Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays most workshops will take place in the Multi-Purpose room French 2109.  On Wednesdays, the rooms will vary from week to week and are written in on the schedule.  Also, workshops for documenting sources take place in computer classrooms so the students can work on it right there and these locations are noted on the schedule as well.
