Welcome to the Center for Access and Transition
at the University of Cincinnati

The Center for Access and Transition (CAT) offers a unique opportunity for admission to the Uptown Campus of the University of Cincinnati and its programs. All who are admitted become Freshman Bearcats.

To be successful in a university setting, some students need to develop additional skills and others need to brush up on their academic skills. These skills can be acquired in CAT. A review of your admissions portfolio will determine if you are eligible to receive an invitation.

CAT provides academic foundation courses in mathematics, reading, writing, oral communication, and study skills – all supplemented by opportunities for individualized professional tutoring services. Students admitted to UC through CAT also work intensively with academic advisors focusing on the requisites needed to reach each student’s personal and educational goals.

Registration for freshman classes is determined by placement scores on tests taken after the university’s offer of admission has been accepted. Students from every baccalaureate college on UC’s Uptown Campus are enrolled in the academic foundation courses taught by CAT faculty.

Freshmen admitted to the Uptown Campus through CAT may transition directly to any one of five of UC’s colleges.
