Thursday, October 3, 11:00a - 1:00p -- The Center for Community Engagement invites students, faculty, and staff to meet non-profit organizations and community partners at the 2013 National Student Day Community Service Fair. Students are encouraged to engage with a local community-based organization, and find out how they can serve unmet needs in our community. Community partners, faculty, and staff are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to network, initiate potential collaborations, and explore the possibility of a Service-Learning relationship. There will be a raffle for a $250 gift certificate to the UC bookstore for studenrs who attend this great event!

Into the Streets - September 28, 2013

Saturday, September 28, 2013: Kick off an exciting year of service by joining hundreds of volunteers as they head 'Into the Streets' for one of the largest one-day service projects at the University of Cincinnati. The Center for Community Engagement's Into the Streets is an annual event during which UC students, faculty, and staff volunteer their time and effort to a range of service organizations for a full day at the start of the academic year. Breakfast and lunch is provided for all volunteers! Key partners for Into the Streets 2013 include Keep Cincinnati Beautiful and the Neighborhood Enhancement Program which coordinate and integrate services and community redevelopment efforts. Efforts will be focused in the Carthage neighborhood to meet community-identified needs through this nationally acclaimed program. Into the Streets 2013 will also team up with Building Hope in the City - Cincinnati, and various student organizations.

UC Students Gain Persepective on Homelessness

Like he has for the past decade, MJ Woeste will take a group of University of Cincinnati students into downtown Cincinnati to live as members of the homeless community for 36 hours. The experience later this month will mark a few milestones for Woeste and his Intercultural Communication class at UC – 10 years, 360 hours, more than 800 students and countless lives affected. A recent study by the Cincinnati Health Department examining life expectancies by neighborhood has found that average life expectancy differs up to 20 years depending upon which part of the city you reside. Strive, the United Way and others are backing what's known as the Preschool Promise, which will propose providing a subsidy for every family in Cincinnati who wants to send their 3- or 4-year-old to the preschool of their choice. A new and improved national survey on student engagement at colleges and universities is once again emphasizing why here at home, Bearcats believe an education at the University of Cincinnati is “Cincinnati Smart."Findings from the 2013 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) are emphasizing how a UC education is taking learning beyond the classroom. The 2013 survey involved 335,000 first-year and senior students attending 568 U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting colleges and universities. Approximately 1,478 UC freshmen and 1,974 UC seniors participated in the 2013 survey. Click here for more.
