Frequently Asked Questions

Submitting hours on volunteer.uc.edu

  • When responding to a need on volunteer.uc.edu, you are signing up for the exact hours that the need requires. When logging those hours online, your hours may be rejected if you request the wrong number of hours (too many or too few).
  • To address situations like this it is best to contact the agency responsible for the volunteer activity in question directly.
  • Rejected hours could have resulted from an accident, oversight, or miscommunication. In which case please contact the organizer of the volunteer opportunity.

Where do I turn in my Cincinnatus scholarship hours?

  • Your official scholarship community service record is kept by the Scholarship and New Student Financial Aid Center (cincinnatus@uc.edu, 513-556-2420 option 1, 340 University Pavilion).
  • The Scholarship and New Student Financial Aid Center periodically downloads a report of approved hours on volunteer.uc.edu and adds them to your official Financial Aid record, so its possible for there to be a delay in updating your official record (but this delay will never impact your scholarship status determination).
  • The number of hours on your volunteer.uc.edu profile reflects only the hours that have been approved by an agency in the system.

For volunteer hours for organizations not involved with Center for Community Engagement (meaning they do not have an agency profile on volunteer.uc.edu)

  • Please contact organization to ask how they track hours
  • Ex: UC Dance Marathon had not set up an account on volunteer.uc.edu, so volunteers would need to contact the event coordinator directly.

Cincy Clean-Up

  • Clean Up Cincy is a student led effort, it is not a program of the Center for Community Engagement (CCE).
  • CCE supports the student leaders who pull together Clean Up Cincy events, and I am in an ongoing discussion with the student organizers of Clean Up Cincy to make the community service hours reporting process go more smoothly in the future.
  • In our work supporting the Clean Up Cincy team, they shared a list of all students who participated on each event. We update each volunteer accordingly.

How do I get my hours approved?

  • Within volunteer.uc.edu, there are two ways to have hours approved.
  • One is for you to request approval for the hours. That process notifies an Agency that your hours are pending and the Agency then has the option of approving or denying the hours.
  • The other way it works is for an Agency to use the volunteer.uc.edu "Check-In" feature which will automatically add the number of hours associated with an activity when you check in to volunteer for a Need.

Can I use previous community service hours that I complete before getting accepted and receiving the Cincinnatus scholarship towards Cincinnatus hours?

  • The Center for Community Engagement doesn't oversee that scholarship program. We focus on creating opportunities for all students (regardless of scholarship) who want to get involved in the community, whereas the Scholarship and New Student Financial Aid Center oversees the Cincinnatus scholarship
  • The office believes your Cincinnatus hours must be served between the start of the Fall Semester and the end of the Spring Semester. You can read about the details of your scholarship on the Financial Aid website under "Cincinnatus" http://financialaid.uc.edu/cincinnatusprogram/cincinnatusservice.html
