Over-the-Rhine Community Housing: May 19, 26

What: Over-the-Rhine Community Housing is a non-profit organization that works to build and sustain a diverse neighborhood that values and benefits low-income residents. They focus on developing and managing resident-centered, affordable housing in an effort to promote inclusive community. Only 10 volunteers are needed.

Help at the Asian Food Fest: May 19, and 20
What: UC Habitat for Humanity is helping out at the Asian Food Festival by hosting a beverage stand. We will be selling drinks and representing Habitat for Humanity. RSVP as soon as possible before spots fill up!

UC Beautiful Lengths Campaign: May 19

What: Beautiful Lengths encourages women and men to donate 8 inches of their hair, so that Pantene and the American Cancer Society can turn it into free, real-hair wigs for women with cancer.
When: May 19, 1:00 - 4:00p
Where: TUC Great Hall
Who: Anyone and everyone! This event is open to the public, so bring your family and friends.
Donation requirements: Donation must be a minimum of 8 inches (no max. length, curly hair is measured when straight). Hair must be free of permanent color, chemical treatments and no more than 5% gray.
Donor perks: Stylists will be in attendance to cut hair for free upon donation. Donors will receive 2 Cincinnatus hours for their contribution.

Stadium Steps Challenge 2012: May 19

Can you climb all 1,482 steps in the lower bowl of Nippert Stadium? The Stadium Steps Challenge supports the Cincinnati Diabetes and Obesity Center (CDOC). Meet the challenge!

What: The Dunkin' Donut Dash combines fundraising for the UC Running Club with a canned food drive that benefits Clifton’s own St. George Food Pantry. It's a 1 mile race--and for every donut you eat--you get 5 seconds off your time!

All-Campus Blood Drive: May 21 - 25

What: Hoxworth Blood Center UC serves 31 hospitals in 17 counties in Southwestern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. At least 350 volunteer blood donors and 40 volunteer platelet donors are essential each day to keep up with the demands of tri-state hospitals and their patients.
When: May 21 - 25, 11:00a - 5:00p each day.

What: A large on-campus concert that will showcase local choirs as a special UC preview of the upcoming World Choir Games.

DAAPWorks Security: June 5 - 9

What: Seniors in the Industrial Design program at DAAP need your help! DAAPWorks is the final show at the end of Spring quarter and we need students to act as security in the display areas. You can help!

Community Intervention (23PLAN621–501): June 18 - July 11

When: June 18 – July 11; Mondays, Wednesdays 9:00 - 11:40a (undergrad and grad students; no prerequisites)
What: A seminar (listed as a special topic) to explore the history and dynamics of selected community interventions (including community organizing campaigns) in the U.S. Focus on classic readings, interesting films and meeting with guest speakers. Each student will select a movement or leader to focus on (in the US or another country) as we discover the essentials of community intervention.

Walk In My Shoes Challenge: May 17

What: Nearly 200 high school students from local schools will be walking from Salway Park to Fountain Square to raise awareness and funds for Village Life Outreach Project. The 5.5 mile walk simulates a Tanzanian child’s walk to school and funds raised will help feed children in Tanzania through a feeding program called “ugi.”

Volunteer Tasks: Help greet and congratulate student walkers at the finish line, pass out food, and help celebrate their accomplishments.

International Festival at AWL: May 19

What: Academy of World Languages (AWL) is having their annual International Festival. AWL has students from over 35 different countries who speak over 25 different languages at home.  The festival is a way to bring the diversity and cultural beauty to light! It is a truly international festival full of food, dance, song, and games from around the world.

National Underground Railroad Freedom Center: Tuesdays - Fridays in May

What: The Freedom Center (www.freedomcenter.org) needs volunteers to facilitate tours with K-12 school groups in May.

Where: National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Downtown Cincinnati
Volunteer Tasks: Leading tours for school groups, gain valuable education and experience as a Freedom Center docent, lead hands-on stations. No Experience necessary, training provided.

Reds Community Fund Split the Pot: All 2012 Reds Home Games (See the Schedule)

What: The Reds Community Fund is the non-profit arm of the Reds, dedicated to improving the lives of youth by leveraging the tradition of the Cincinnati Reds and the game of baseball.
When: All Reds home games throughout the season, through September 27 (See the Schedule)
Where: Great American Ball Park (easy bus ride from campus!)
Volunteer Tasks: Volunteers will be walking throughout the ballpark, selling Split the Pot raffle tickets to benefit the Reds Community Fund and its various youth baseball outreach programs.

Computer Classes Mercy Health - St. John: Through - August 1

What: Everyone knows how to use a computer. Right? Not So Much! The students in our free computer training classes are low income adults who are trying to acquire better job skills. This is a "hands on, make a difference" opportunity. You can be the difference between a student "getting it" or dropping out.

When: Commit to 3 hrs/week for a 12 week session. Classes are held morning, afternoon, and evening. You pick which set fits your schedule.

What: Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati (DSAGC) was established in 1981 with a history of responding to the changing needs of individuals with Down syndrome.

Buddy Up Tennis, Fitness, and Fun (www.buddyuptennis.com) program teaches individuals with Down Syndrome the skills and joy of playing tennis. 25 volunteers needed each session.

Independent Living Retreat
When: June 8 - 10, various shifts and overnight hours for this weekend retreat.
Where: Xavier University
Volunteer Tasks: Create fun/safe environment, provide assistance/monitoring as needed. 4 - 8 volunteers to participate in service event Saturday morning, participate in classes/trainings and events, preparation and completion of meals including cooking and clean up, overnight stay needed for each night (2-3 volunteers needed per night- not required to stay awake; sleep in own room).
Volunteer Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age and complete a DSAGC Volunteer Application.  Volunteers will also be required to complete a criminal background check if their volunteer role includes alone time with individuals with Down syndrome.

Wet Field Day: May 19

What: The event is a fun wet day of water games to raise money for the Cincinnati Recreation Commission pool membership scholarship fund through the CRC Young Professionals Group and the Cincinnati Recreation Foundation. We want every child to have the opportunity to swim this summer! Cincinnati Recreation Commission – Public Recreation for all citizens of Cincinnati and Tri state area.

Children’s Hunger Alliance: May 19; June 2, 5

The Community Bread Oven Collaborative
When: May 19, June 2
Where: Permaganic, Inc’s eco-garden located at 1718 Main Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202
What: We need volunteers for The Community Bread Oven Collaborative, an initiative to build and operate a community bread oven in the underserved Over-The-Rhine neighborhood. Partners in the collaborative would also use the oven site to provide educational programming on food empowerment, resources on healthy eating, physical activity lessons, and offer community events to underserved populations in Cincinnati. Finally, the outdoor oven site would afford residents of Over-The-Rhine a safe place for individuals and families to gather together for meals.
Volunteer Tasks: Oven construction includes erecting a clay foundation upon which the outdoor oven will sit, installing the cooking equipment, and creating a small shelter structure for protection of the oven in inclement weather.

Summer Kick-Off

What: This one-time event celebrates the launch of our USDA summer feeding program ensuring that hungry kids in our neighborhoods are fed during the summer through provision of free lunch. Volunteers will help us offer over 200 children a safe space with games and collect giveaway supplies to promote healthy lifestyles.

What: The Arthritis Walk is the Arthritis Foundation's annual nationwide event that raises awareness and funds to fight arthritis, the nation's leading cause of disability.

Kids Safety Fair: May 22

What: An opportunity for all children in the Greater Cincinnati area to be educated in all aspects of safety. At the event the Cincinnati Fire Department, firefighters and police officers in the Greater Cincinnati Area and other safety officials at Yeatman’s Cove will use fire safe houses, puppet shows and mock demonstrations to educate children on fire safety issues.

What: CET is a leading provider of education and enrichment in classrooms and living rooms throughout Greater Cincinnati. Through PBS and local programming, innovative multimedia curriculum projects, parent workshops and teacher training, CET positively impacts millions of lives in our community. CET needs volunteers to answer phones for a membership drive in June.

What: The Friends of the Public Library invites you to volunteer at the 40th Annual Used Book Sale, which benefits programs of the Public Library, including the summer reading program for children.

World Choir Games Volunteers: Now - July 14 (Cincinnatus Hours Served After 6/7 Applied to 2012-2013)

What: The 2012 World Choir Games is an international competition of choirs in 23 categories who will come from more than 45 countries. There will be thousands of choir members who are members of more than 400 choirs and many thousands of spectators. Volunteers will have the satisfaction of meeting persons from all over the world, and in participating in a world class event that will be the pride of Cincinnati for years to come. Up to 15 Cincnnatus service hours can be applied to 2012 - 2013 even for students who are not enrolled in summer classes.

General Volunteers:
When: Opportunities to volunteer from now until the choir games end on July 14.
Where: The primary competitions will be held in downtown Cincinnati although there will be concerts for the public held throughout the greater Cincinnati area. Volunteers are asked to provide their own transportation.
Tasks: Volunteers are needed to host visiting choirs, escort assigned choirs to events, assist dignitaries and judges, assistance with the public, and many other activities. There are special opportunities for bilingual students who can act as interpreters.

Host Translator Volunteer
Languages Needed: Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Japanese, Kazak, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese.
Main functions: Provide language translating services choirs, and escort the choirs to and from official events.
Tasks: The Host Translator will be assigned to serve a choir based on country and province. The Host Translator will also be paired with a Choir Host and work closely to serve choirs. The goal of both the Choir Host and Host Translator is to make the American experience positive and meaningful giving the choir a real sense of the warmth and friendliness Cincinnati has to offer.
Time Commitment: Days of operation July 4 – 14, two sessions (4 - 9 and 10 - 14). Hours could start as early as 7:00a and end as late as 11:00p. There are 3 shifts a day, morning, afternoon, and evening. Goal is to have the same team escort the choir throughout their 4-5 day stay.

Mud Ninja! Autism Speaks: June 16; July 28

What: The Mud Ninja Extreme Challenge, benefiting Autism Speaks. The Mud Ninja provides you with the opportunity to fight more then just mud, insane obstacles and your inner self. By participating in The Mud Ninja Extreme Challenge you are helping battle autism. Autism Speaks is the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization.
When: All day June 16; July 28
Where: UC's Campus, Duke Energy Center, South Salem
Volunteer Tasks: Hanging and passing out flyers, talking to people about the event, building the course, managing volunteers.

Freestore Foodbank Volunteer Team Leader

Where: 1250 Tennessee Avenue, Cincinnati OH, 45229
Duration: Long term/Ongoing
Time Commitment: Seven+ Hours a week
Schedule: Saturdays 8:00a - 3:00p
Essential Functions: The Freestore Foodbank Distribution Center is seeking a permanent Volunteer Team Leader to help supervise and coordinate teams of 10-40 volunteers. Typical activities include Power Pack assembly, food sorting, and senior box assembly, but will vary on a weekly basis. Sometimes the Volunteer Team Leader will assist with data entry and paperwork.
Requirements: Must be able to lift at least 50lbs, willing to work with people from diverse backgrounds, and able to take direction. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic, committed, and passionate about theFreestore Foodbank’s mission.
Work Environment: Ware House setting/office, fast paced, can be challenging.

Clovernook Center for the Blind

Create a video chronicling the wonderful work of volunteers at Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The video will be displayed during the annual volunteer luncheon on May 16 at Clovernook Country Club on W. Galbraith Rd. Primary tasks include contacting and scheduling time with volunteers and consumers to get the proper footage, conducting interviews with volunteers and consumers, as well as photographing volunteers at work. Job requires attention to detail and flexible schedule, strong communication skills and experience in creating videos. Knowledge of PowerPoint is preferred. Marketing Opportunity for YPKC: Now - May 18

What: MarketYPKC Spring Fling fundraiser. This year marks the 23rd year for the YPKC Spring Fling fundraiser. The structure of the event is live music, donated food from 14 restaurants, and drinks. Money raised benefits the Cincinnati Horticultural Society and for Jean Robert's Family SIDS Foundation. This event brings in about 1,000 young professionals each year. Event is May 18th 8:00a - 12:30p at Coney Island's Moonlight Pavillion.
Volunteer Tasks: Help in determining a theme for this year's event, develop a marketing schedule, create a marketing video that will be shown on Fountain Square and other media outlets, be knowledgeable in website management--making updates, etc... and form relationships with media for marketing and press releases.

Pit Crew
Volunteers are needed to assist in putting up, taking down and moving scaffolding during the 2012 build season at various sites throughout Cincinnati.  All Pit Crew members will receive an email in advance of upcoming needs and are able to choose when and how often they help.

SWAT Crew
(Sweeping, Washing And Tidying)
Cincinnati Habitat is looking for volunteers to assist in cleaning the homes in time for the dedication ceremony.  The cleaning will take place one day for each house and will occur on a weekday. 5-6 volunteers are needed per cleaning.  Supplies are provided by Cincinnati Habitat.  All SWAT Crew Members will receive an email as a house nears the dedication and is ready for cleaning.  SWAT Crew Members are able to choose when and how often they help.

The Covington Mentoring Program

With a few different options, we’re sure that we have something that fits your schedule. Bulldog Connection is the middle and high school program in Covington. You must be 21 years of age, have a clean background check, and the desire to change someone’s life. Committing to at least one year with the student, you will meet with them a total of 4 hours a month, split up however works best for both of your schedules. The Lunch Buddy program involves an adult 18 or older, and an elementary school student. You will meet with them during their lunch period, either in the lunch room or the Family Resource Center at the school. After-School Buddy follows the same criteria as the Lunch Buddies, but meets primarily after school.

Vincentian Volunteers of Cincinnati: Post-Graduate Year-Long Service Program

What: St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati’s year-long, residential service program, rooted in spirituality and direct service to our neighbors in need.
When: 11-month commitment, starting late August 2012
Where: SVdP’s Outreach Center in the West End neighborhood in Cincinnati
Volunteer Tasks: Vincentian Volunteers will commit 11 months to living together in the West End neighborhood of Cincinnati and working at SVDP in a variety of capacities including the Choice Food Pantry, Charitable Pharmacy, Social Services, and the Ozanam Center for Service Learning, which hosts overnight retreats for people interested in learning more about poverty in our community. They will live in intentional community in a home in the West End, and will have weekly opportunities for prayer and reflection.
Volunteer Perks: All basic expenses will be covered – room and board, health insurance, and a monthly stipend.  In addition, we will support people in securing loan deferment when possible, and the Volunteers will receive an Education Award upon completion of their year of service. Camp Counselor for Week-Long Summer Camp: June 30 - July 7th

What: The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) offers a one-week camping session to children and young adults ages 6-17 who have muscular dystrophy or a related neuromuscular disorder at no cost to the family.
When: Evening of June 30 - the afternoon of July 7th. Volunteers must be able to commit the entire week, and will perform 160 hours of community service!

Volunteer Tasks: help the campers get around the facility; help campers participate in activities such as swimming, sports, arts & crafts, etc; push wheelchairs, assist with personal care and will be paired one-on-one with a camper; have a strong desire to give of themselves; ensure campers have a safe and enjoyable camping experience. Meal Time Help Needed at the Boys & Girls Club

The US Bank Boys & Girls Club in Avondale seeks volunteers to prepare and distribute dinner for our youth members daily Mondays - Fridays 4:00 - 6:00p. Responsibilities include placing catered meals on trays and distributing to members, disposing of excess food and light cleaning of the cafeteria. Tutors and Mentors Needed at Boys Hope Girls Hope

Tutor Boys Hope Girls Hope (BHGH) scholars at residential homes, or BHGH's after-school program at Purcell Marian High School. Tutoring includes a variety of subject matters, from 3th to 12th grade. Volunteer training is provided. Most locations are accessible by bus. Scholars are tutored for a minimum of 90 minutes per week for one academic year, on weekdays between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Mentor Boys Hope Girls Hope (BHGH) scholars to provide support and encouragement as role models. Mentoring is a two-way fulfillment, reserved for evenings and weekends. Mentors arrange meetings with scholars, bi-monthly, and maintain communication between visits for a minimum of a year. Volunteer training is provided.
