Elect Her Training: February 9

The UC Women’s Center and Student Government co-sponsor this nationally organized AAUW program to train women to run for campus-based elective office and to promote their leadership skills. Included in the day are national trainings, local elected officials, light breakfast and lunch and a wonderful chance for women to hone leadership skills.

Cincinnati Dance Marathon: February 16 - 17

What: The fifth annual Cincinnati Dance Marathon invites students, faculty, staff and the entire Tristate community to participate in what student organizers hope will be the largest Cincinnati Dance Marathon ever.

28th Annual Student Leadership Conference: February 23

An annual event since 1985, this one-day leadership conference focuses on building individual student leader skills and connections. This year will include energetic opening and closing sessions, lunch, a keynote, and nearly three dozen educational programs about community service, philanthropy, student organization funding, public speaking, campus scheduling, and professional development.

The Teach For America – Las Vegas Valley & the Zappos Family of Companies Alternative Spring Break is intended to spark bold, new innovations that expand opportunities and close the achievement gap in the Las Vegas Valley community.

We are seeking applicants who are passionate about and driven by the objective of expanding opportunities for all children, especially in low income communities. Additionally, we are looking for participants who are risk-friendly and open to trying out new approaches or taking less-familiar pathways.

TechOlympics Expo 2013: February 22 - 24

The TechOlympics Expo (TOE) is an annual event put on by the INTERalliance of Greater Cincinnati, an organization dedicated to educating high school students about local college and career opportunities in STEM fields. TOE is a weekend event designed to expose high school students to STEM opportunities in a fun, enriching environment.

Peace Corps Visits UC: February 25

210,000+ Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 139 host countries to work on issues ranging from AIDS education to information technology and environmental preservation. Peace Corps Volunteers continue to help countless individuals who want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their communities.

Cincinnati Regional Science Olympiad Tournament: March 2

Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 science education, increasing male, female and minority interest in science, creating a technologically-literate workforce and providing recognition for outstanding achievement. Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous, academic, interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of team events, which students prepare for during the year. These challenging and motivational events provide an opportunity for students with varying skills to compete and excel in science, mathematics, communication skills, and teamwork.

Keep Cincinnati Beautiful - Art Installation: March 2

Help Keep Cincinnati Beautiful with an art installation at the site of the new Dunnhumby building downtown. Weave colorful vinyl along the fence around the construction site--a different design but the same technique used on the fence at 3rd and Broadway by the stadiums! Prior experience is not necessary!

The William Howard Taft National Historic Site is a national historic site, and part of the National Park Service's mission to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. The National Park Service cooperates with partners to extend the benefits of natural and cultural resource conservation and outdoor recreation throughout this country and the world.

Girl Scouts: Ongoing

Work with girls and change the way girls see the world and their place in it. Lead a series of linked program sessions that relate to a specific theme. Series offerings are short-term volunteer opportunities of six to eight sessions, with curriculum and training provided.

Summer Youth Ministry Intern: June - August

Shiloh United Methodist Church in Cincinnati is looking for someone called into youth ministry who has at least one year of college completed. This 10 week internship is an intensive, full-time, fully immersive internship that spans the summer months (June – August). The intern will receive a scholarship of $2000 upon completion of the internship in addition to a weekly stipend of $50 to help offset everyday expenses. There are housing possibilities through living with a host family from the church. The Youth Ministry Intern will help lead the youth of Shiloh United Methodist Church in Christian activities and deepening their relationship with Christ while gaining hands on experience for ministry. Internship Objectives include: personal spiritual growth, develop professional skills for vocational ministry, cultivate healthy relationships with students and peers.

Boys Hope Girls Hope Mentors and Tutors for scholars ages 9 - 18
When: Tutors engage with scholars weekly; mentors engage with scholars monthly for 1 academic year evenings and/or weekends for the remainder of the school year November 1 to June 1.
Where: Boys’ residential homes in Finneytown, girls’ residential home in Walnut Hills, community-Based Program at Purcell Marian HS (Walnut Hills).
Volunteer Tasks: Form supportive relationships; advocate for scholars, support scholars’ academic life through tutoring and homework help; guide life skills and model study skills; encourage post-secondary education.

Singers and Pianists Needed for ROKCincy: December - May (Very Flexible)

ROKCincy (Roundabout Opera for Kids: Cincinnati) is a non-profit bringing fully staged live performances to area schools and educational institutions.  Our mission is to provide young students an engaging first experience with the genre as audience members and to provide developing professional musicians the opportunity to hones their skills. This is a FREE service to the schools and students.
When: Rehearsals and performances are scheduled around you.
Where: Rehearsals are on campus and performances are at local elementary schools and community centers with transportation provided, if necessary.
Volunteer Tasks: Fill out the roles of Into the Woods (a 40 min. child-friendly version), and pianists to narrate and accompany performances and rehearsals.
Volunteer Perks: Fun and enriching way to use your time and talents performing for young students whose arts funding is lacking or has been cut entirely, the opportunity to perform at events in which members of the Cincinnati arts scene, including Cincinnati Opera and Playhouse in the Park have an interest.

When a child is hospitalized and scared, the love and support of family is powerful in helping a child's recovery process. Cincinnati's Ronald McDonald House allows families to remain close by their children receiving medical treatment at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

Bond Hill Academy Tutors and Running Mentors: Now - May

Bond Hill Academy is an underserved Cincinnati Public School, located at 1510 California Ave. it's only about 10 minutes from UC's main campus.

Tutors
Bond Hill Academy is a K-8 school that needs volunteers to assist in academic tutoring both during and after school.
When: Monday - Thursday, 8:00a - 5:00p. Hours are flexible, and volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of one hour per week.
Volunteer Tasks: Volunteers will be working with students in order to improve their math, reading, science, and social studies skills. During after-school hours (2:30p - 5:00p), volunteers also will be able to spend time playing with students and assisting in their social skill development.c

Running Mentors
Come work with Bond Hill Academy's Girls on the Run team. This program encourages 3rd - 5th grade girls to be healthy, active, goal oriented and more through training for a 5k race.
When: Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, February - May, 1 - 2 times per week commitment.
Volunteer Tasks: Commit to working with the girls for the entire season, encourage the girls in achieving their goals, and acting as a mentor by modeling a healthy lifestyle.

Redesign and Reproduce Clovernook's Emergency Evacuation Map Plans: Anytime

Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired is a nonprofit organization that empowers people who are blind and visually impaired to be self-sufficient and full participants in their communities.

Volunteer Tasks: Make clear, simple, emergency evacuation routes to be placed in over 40 rooms. Current plans are outdated. Orienting yourself with all of the existing maps (will take 2-3 days), and creating new maps, making sure there is one in each room. Experience with Computer Assisted Design is critical to performing the tasks. Must be done by April 2013.

Mercy Health - St. John: Weekends Year Round

Mercy Health – St. John is a social service agency which assists the poor and underserved of the Over the Rhine community. Our Youth Development Program participants are at risk teens living in poverty. Work with our counselors to facilitate weekly peer to peer groups, help organize and accompany groups on outings or just talk. Teens need to see what is possible, that other young people are making it. We can be flexible about schedules. A commitment of one semester is appreciated.

The Covington Mentoring Program

Bulldog Connection is the middle and high school program in Covington. You must be 21 years of age, have a clean background check, and the desire to change someone’s life. Committing to at least one year with the student, you will meet with them a total of 4 hours a month, split up however works best for both of your schedules. The Lunch Buddy program involves an adult 18 or older, and an elementary school student. You will meet with them during their lunch period, either in the lunch room or the Family Resource Center at the school. After-School Buddy follows the same criteria as the Lunch Buddies, but meets primarily after school.

Meal Time Help Needed at the Boys & Girls Club

The US Bank Boys & Girls Club in Avondale seeks volunteers to prepare and distribute dinner for our youth members daily Mondays - Fridays 4:00 - 6:00p. Responsibilities include placing catered meals on trays and distributing to members, disposing of excess food and light cleaning of the cafeteria. Dinner is catered every evening so no actual cooking is required. The US Bank Boys & Girls Club serves dinner to over 80 youth daily. The commitment is small but the rewards are immense!

Greater Cincinnati Latino Coalition

The GCLC is looking for a student to volunteer with this organization that aims to serve the newly arrived Hispanic families in our area. The student will benefit from making professional contacts, networking and meeting different leaders that have special interest in serving the Hispanic Community. The Greater Cincinnati Latino Coalition meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 2:00 to 3:30 pm at the Community Action Agency in Cincinnati. Mentor at the Boys and Girls Club: Over-the-Rhine (Thursdays 5:30 - 6:30p), or Avondale (Wednesdays 5:30 - 6:30p). Play sports, help with homework, talk, and encourage. You can earn ~35 hours of service time with lunch buddies and 40-50 hours with the boys and girls club program.
