We thank you for your enthusiasm with wanting to be a part of ZooMates.Unfortunately we can no longer accept volunteers for this academic year. This opportunity however will present itself next year and we hope that you get the chance to be a part of it. Visit our website in the Fall 2008 for information about ZooMates for the coming academic year.
ZooMates is one of our signature programs. 26 UC students serve as mentors to 26 children experiencing homelessness, meeting at the Cincinnati Zoo throughout the school year 2007-2008.
The students and the children meet once a month at the Zoo for an organized program involving visiting behind the scenes at the elephant house, a cat show, an animal handling demonstration, planting bulbs, and programs UC and Project Connect plan and provide.
The obligation for the UC student is to be able to commit to the Zoo meeting one time per month at the Zoo for the entire year. This year we are going to visit the Zoo on the third Thursday of every month from 3 – 4:30.
In addition, we ask each UC student to have at least one additional contact with their Zoo Mate per month. Examples of the second contact could include a phone call, a visit to their school, or an additional outing. |
