The Conducting Workshop July 22-25, 2008

Rodney Winther, CCM

CCM Summer Wind Symphony

The University of Cincinnati and the College Conservatory of Music is pleased to announce the offering of the 2008 CCM Conducting Workshop from July 22-25 (Tuesday through Friday), 2008 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This workshop is designed to address the needs of today’s public school conductor/educator. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or just finishing your first year of teaching, this workshop is for you.

Participants are asked to bring to the workshop three recently conducted works, regardless of the degree of difficulty. The lab ensemble will be composed of workshop participants who will be joined by members of the renowned CCM Wind Symphony.

Each conducting opportunity will be videotaped, followed by one-on-one critique sessions.

Special emphasis will be placed on:

           • Score preparation and analysis
           • Left and right hand interaction
           • Mixed meter conducting
           • Accompanimental conducting
           • Rehearsal techniques

Join Professor Rodney Winther as the weeklong workshop marks his 25th year of hosting an annual summer conducting symposium. Also, please note that the CCM Conducting Workshop will not take place during the following summer of 2009 due to the hosting of the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) on the campus of the College Conservatory of Music.

Eighteen (18) participant slots will be chosen on a first come, first served basis with observer slots available to remaining applicants. Information regarding housing, fees, credit and application is available for download below. Applicants are asked to complete all required portions and return with desposit for consideration.

Additionally, one tuition remission scholarship will be awarded to a current member of the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) on the basis of both scholarship and need. Applicants must be a WASBE member in good standing and are asked to submit a DVD recording of fifteen (15) minutes of performance and rehearsal time if possible. If applicants are unable to submit a DVD recording, they may choose to submit a sample repertoire listing of a concert programming of one hour in length. In addition, all applicants should submit a cumulative repertoire vitae and resume alongside the completed CCM Conducting Workshop application.

For more information regarding the program, please feel free to contact Keith Phillips, Wind Studies Summer Programs administrator, via email (phillik4@email.uc.edu) or by calling (513) 556-2160.
