Cincinnati Regional Food Congress

The second annual Cincinnati Regional Food Congress was held at the UC Community Design Center on Saturday, April 10, 2010. Food Congress 2010 convened over 100 food interested stakeholders to learn about the ongoing improvements to the Cincinnati food system and discuss the potential for change. Mark Winne, food policy advocate and author of Closing the Food Gap opened the event with a talk on food policy. Michelle Dillingham, chair of the Food Policy Council Development Group, announced the launch of Cincinnati’s first Food Policy Council. Following Michelle, Tiffany McDowell from The Center for Closing the Health Gap presented the Center’s ongoing efforts to alleviate and eliminate barriers to food access and security in the Avondale neighborhood. The three speakers primed participants for the four focused afternoon discussions on local food policy, food insecurity, local food distribution and youth involved urban agriculture. Food Congress 2010 served to educate individuals on the various activities and organizations working to improve the local food system.
