GEAR UP Job Shadowing
The Community Design Center hosted 6 high school students for job shadowing for the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programís (GEAR UP) grant program.
Community Design Center employees informed the GEAR UP students about different aspects of architecture, urban planning, and graphic design and answered the studentsí specific questions about the professions. Students were also introduced to different software according to their interests, and were provided with the chance to practice with this software.
Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEARUP) works with students, parents and teachers to help them gain access to higher education through academic support, information, and enrichment programs. GEARUP is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
The Cincinnati GEAR UP Partnership includes Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, the University of Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, and Cincinnati Public Schools. The program is administered by the Partner for Achieving School Success (PASS) Center in the University of Cincinnati's College of Education , Criminal Justice, and Human Services (CECH).
