Reconnaissance and Precedent Analysis:
Students worked individually to conduct research activities to better understand the context of design problems under consideration by the studio.
There are three goals associated with this assignment:
- To understand the major development issues/problems found both in our study areas and in similar areas elsewhere.
- More broadly: to understand the relationship between movement systems, urban form, and
the socio-economic health of the neighborhoods and regions they connect.
- To identify development approaches to these issues that might lead to a more socially,
economically, and environmentally sustainable condition in our study areas.
Students conducted their research in three areas: case studies, spatial analysis, and theory.
