The Community Design Center/ Niehoff Studio has worked with Venice on Vine in the past, designing and constructing the interior of the restaurant. Venice on Vine Pizza is located in Over-the-Rhine and provides nutritious food alternatives as well as job training and employment opportunities for neighborhood residents. They wanted to increase the traffic into the restaurant by creating graphic material that would raise awareness of its services. In order to do this, it was decided that window graphics would be designed, to call attention to the restaurant as well as the food offered.
Several factors were considered while designing the window graphic concepts.
1)The existing signage: A building sign was present at the start of this project, and would be remaining in place. While the graphics did not need to be an exact replica of the existing sign, it was pertinent that the two visual identities did not completely clash.
2)The interior of the restaurant contained several prominent visual features, in which inspiration could be drawn.
3)The client had provided the copy for the signage and asked that food imagery be present.
The concept chosen pulled inspiration from the unique tiling
on the floor of Venice on Vine Pizza, and stayed consistent with the theme of color bars on the top and bottom of the existing signage.
