UC Scholar Athlete of the Month Award
CEAS Presents UC Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October
Jeff Linkenbach

Anchoring the left side of the offensive line and protecting his quarterback's blind side are only part of the impressive resume being compiled by Jeff Linkenbach. Excellence on the field coupled with sterling achievement in the classroom makes Jeff Linkenbach a natural choice as the UC Scholar-Athlete of the Month for October. Jeff maintains a 3.4 (out of 4.0) GPA as a business administration major in the College of Business
The College of
Engineering and Applied Science is not alone in honoring Jeff's athletic and
scholastic success. The NFF, National Football Foundation, and College
Football Hall of Fame have named Jeff as a semi-finalist for the William V.
Campbell Trophy awarded annually to a senior or graduate student who
demonstrates outstanding performance on the field and in class. States
Steven J. Hatchell, NFF President & CEO, "The Campbell Trophy semifinalists
represent everything great about college football, having achieved excellence in
all aspects of their lives."
"Being named the UC Scholar-Athlete for October is a great honor and a surprise. This is a great award and I am grateful to be part of the program," declares Jeff .
"Being a
Bearcat is a tremendous opportunity," states Jeff. "You go into class day
after day and then on the field on Saturdays having a great time and earning a
degree and winning championships! What could be better?"
When asked about the key to being a successful student-athlete, Jeff centers on time management. "Scheduling is the top priority. There is time for everything but you must schedule time for practice, time for class and time for studying and homework." He fully expects this ability to serve him well in the future as he would like to play football "at the next level" (the NFL) and then put his business degree to work.
A graduate of Margaretta High School in Sandusky, Ohio, Jeff was a member of the National Honor Society and a two-time all-league and all-district selection garnering his teams Best Offensive Lineman and Best Defensive Lineman awards in 2004.
After redshirting his freshman year, Jeff continued to gain recognition as he was named to The Sporting News' BIG EAST All-Freshman Team and also recognized as UC's Offensive Newcomer of the Year. In addition to being a Top Cat Scholar, Jeff has been a consistent starter and stalwart on the UC BIG EAST Champion Football Team.
