Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Program (GEARUP) is a federal college awareness and readiness initiative for economically disadvantaged youth administered through the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Post-Secondary Education.
GEARUP SCORES! is a local partnership that delivers college awareness and readiness programs and services to a cohort of over 4700 Cincinnati Public Schools students currently in thirty (30) K-8 elementary schools. This partnership is supported by a six-year, $18.4 million grant.

The Supplemental Education Services (SES) program strengthens academic achievement and provides enrichment for eligible Cincinnati Public school students through individualized targeted academic interventions. UC SES provision of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) enables low-income parents to seek out free tutoring services for their children who are struggling in school. These services provide students with extra help in the academic subjects of reading, language arts, and mathematics. The tutoring services are to be delivered outside the regular school day, before or after school, and/or on weekends.
UC SES is a state-approved provider. The University of Cincinnati has the capacity and resources to deliver a high-quality, research-based tutoring program that is aligned with state standards.

The Higher Education Mentoring Initiative (HEMI) is a partnership between Hamilton County Commissioner Greg Hartmann, Hamilton County Job and Family Services and the University of Cincinnati. HEMI seeks to reduce delinquency and helps prepare foster children for post-secondary education. The initiative will recruit, train and support mentors to establish long term, positive relationships with foster care youth. The mentors will assist, encourage and support academic achievement through high school and help create a direct pathway to higher education.
