Dr. Stephen P. Depoe

Dr. Stephen P. Depoe, Ph.D. is Associate Professor and the Communication Department Head. He is the Director of the Center for Environmental Communication Studies. Dr. Depoe's background is in political communication. He has written one book and numerous articles on the history of American liberal rhetoric. In recent years, he has turned his attention to the study of environmental justice and public participation in environmental controversies. Professor Depoe has led or participated in a number of interdisciplinary research projects funded by agencies such as the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Dr. Gail T. Fairhurst

Dr. Gail T. Fairhurst, Ph.D. is Professor and former Department Head of Communication. Dr. Fairhurst is known nationally for the study of leadership communicaion. She studies internal organizational processes and leadership in organizations, including environmental organizations. Dr. Fairhurst has published regularly in journals in the Communication and Organizational Sciences. Along with Robert Sarr, she is the recent author of The Art of Framing: Managing the Language of Leadership. Send e-mail to fairhrst@uc.edu.

Dr. Jerry M. Jordan

Dr. Jerry M. Jordan, Ph.D. is Associate Professor in the Department of Communication. Dr. Jordan's expertise is in the study of interpersonal communication processes. His recent publications have focused on how people plan for specific types of interactions and how those communicative intentions determine, or constrain, manifest interaction behaviors. In recent work for the Department of Energy, Dr. Jordan directed a project centered on exploring how informal, interpersonal sources of information factor into the public's attitudes toward environmental risks. Dr. Kurt Neuwirth

Dr. Kurt Neuwirth, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication and an associate of the Center, providing expertise in the area of mass communications. Dr. Neuwirth's research examines the effects of media content on people's perceptions of hazards, their emotional reactions to risk, and changes in their behaviors. In addition, his work examines the role the media play in forming and changing public opinion, especially when information about hazards influences wider social and political processes. Dr. C. Mo Bahk

Dr. C. Mo Bahk, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Cincinnati and an active member of the Center for Environmental Communication Studies. His research explores the nature and consequences of dramatic media messages dealing with health and environmental issues. He earned his doctoral degree from Michigan State University. John Delicath

John W. Delicath is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication.  Professor Delicath's background is in argumentation, rhetoric, social theory, and cultural studies.  His research interests include environmental justice, public participation in environmental decision making, the cultural production of nature, and the politics of scholarship.  His publications have examined green consumerism, radical environmentalism, and the place of activist scholarship in the field of environmental communication studies.  Professor Delicath has participated in a number of projects consistent with his research interests.  He has co-authored a proposal to conduct a series of national public debates on brownfields/environmental justice, served on an advisory committee to explore mechanisms for public participation on urban sprawl and smart growth in Cincinnati, and helped to promote the showing of a series of photographs concerning environmental justice.  Send e-mail to delicajw@email.uc.edu
