Semester Conversion provides the University of Cincinnati with an historic, extraordinary opportunity to effect transformational changes throughout UC’s academic calendar, curriculum, and pedagogy. At the heart of the semester-conversion process lies course and curriculum redesign.
CET&L programs and seminars can help you complete the C-1 and P-1 Forms to meet the semester conversion deadlines, and also make UC’s conversion to semesters the teaching opportunity we’ve hoped for.
The Semester Conversion Steering Committee has also assembled a Program and Course Redesign Checklist which provides an inventory of considerations and resources to help faculty work through the process of Program and Course Redesign.
1. P-1 Form Help: Defining Program-Based Student Learning Outcomes & Translating Them Into a Curricular Structure Seminar This seminar is designed for teams of faculty from your program to re-envision and redesign the way the courses in your program work together (and work in concert with those courses from other programs). This two-part seminar is designed to start UC's academic programs percolating as they consider possibility for transformative change at the program level within our conversion to semesters and to help them complete the P-1 Form. 2. C-1 Form Help: Defining Course-Based Student Learning Outcomes Seminar Participants will work through the process of defining their SLOs so that they can complete the section of the C-1 form that requires them to list their student learning outcomes. Learn more
3. Help For faculty Who Cannot Make a CET&L Seminar and Want Examples of Student Learning Outcomes CET&L has created self-directed interative modules that will help you to define Program and Course-Based Student Learning Outcomes so that you can complete the C-1 and P-1 Forms. Learn more
4. Year-Long Course Redesign Seminars Faculty who participate a year-long course redesign seminar will leave with a redesigned course that has clearly articulated student learning outcomes, assessment mechanisms (both formative and summative) that measure whether or not those goals have been met, and finally new activities and assignments to help our students achieve the learning outcomes we set forth. Each participant will receive an honorarium. PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE SEMINARS ARE FULL. Learn more
5. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Seminar Seminar participants will design, investigate, and implement a research project related to student learning in one of their courses (or in one of their programs) over the course of academic year 2009-2010. Once UC transition to semesters, SoTL will help faculty to assess and report how the resulting semester-conversion strategies work to achieve deeper learning and enhanced teaching. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SEMINAR IS FULL. Learn more
6. Semester Conversion Discussion Series These conversations draw together faculty from a diversity of colleges and from a wide range of experience in an effort to anticipate the challenges, envision the possibilities, and inform all UC departments regarding the exciting possibilities arising from semester conversion.
