UC PEDAGOGY PRIORITIES

  • Distance Learning
    Distance learning, or distance education, is a field of education that focuses on the teaching methods, technology, and instructional systems that are effectively incorporated in delivering education to students who are not physically "on site" to receive their education.

  • Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
    The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is the process of assessing instruction effectiveness,  implementing new methods of instruction, and making one’s findings public.

  • Service Learning
    Service learning is a reflective educational experience in which students earn academic credit by participating in meaningful service activities.

  • Problem Based Learning
    Problem-based learning (PBL) is an active-learning pedagogy based on current pedagogical theories including constructivism, social constructivism, and situated cognition. In PBL classrooms, learning occurs as group members work together to solve complex problems.

  • First-Year Experience and Learning Communities
    A group of 12 - 25 students who take 2 or more courses together. Through frequent contact and shared interests, the members of a learning community will have the opportunity to develop strong academic and social relationships.
